Usually the outer third of the eyebrow disappears if you have low thryoid function not picked up by the medical profession and at times called Fibromyalgia, With any autoimmune disease there is a risk of thryoid problems, Thyroid UK give the best support for undiagnosed thyroid problems! MaryF

i read that last year atht loss of eyebrow hair is a thyroid problem, but dr's dismiss these things cos they say bloods are .I have said to my dr can something be done to reduce the bone growth in my nose as I wake up every day and see how swollen my nose is and the discolouration around my eyes. ,just dismissed me.hwy don't we get the support of our doctors anymore.,my original GP was fantastic and did everything he could to support me and get diagnosed.maybe its different here in the north

Believe me, it's not a Northern thing, Hun. Most docs equate thyroidism with 'women making a fuss about nothing'. I wonder just how many women's work is lost to the economy through thyroidism? Many, I'm betting. They devalue us by treating us in this way. And yet to take them on is soooo wearing. Sympathies!

Hello anbuma, do you have any 'before' photos you could post? Sometimes it helps to look at some old photos then you can maybe clearer tell how great the change actually is.Not to dismiss your thoughts/feelings in anyway but some of the things like weight gain around middle but loss on thighs, hips, legs etc are very often normal ageing signs, weight distribution that is natural as we age a bit.I also have that and it feels so unlike me,shape is definitely changing but my weight not very much different.

im not just talking a few ounces/lbs.my weight in 2011 was 11.5 stone and had been fro a long time.it was only from sept 2011 I started to gain weight and its all abdominal.having lost some weight|(3rd time) from my hips(2") and legs makes more weight gained on stomach.which now measures 44.5".i am a normal size 12/14 everywhere else.

its not only weight gain its the rockhardness of my stomach which is also very sore and lumpy all over and radiating around my sides to my back(kidney area??)

Too many doctors rely solely on blood tests and not actual symptoms. 15 years ago my gp referred me to endo with 'classic symptoms' of under active thyroid including a 3 stone weight gain, outer third of eyebrows missing, extreme tiredness, lethargy, puffy face etc etc. Endo agreed with docs diagnosis ' said he'd soon have me feeling well. And then he room a blood test and at follow up appointment said there was nothing wrong with & that I should join a gym!!

Print off the tick list suggested by MaryM and take this to your doctor. I didn't know much about the thyroid back when I was first dismissed but I did know that things weren't as they should be! I saw the wonderful Dr Dkinner who transformed my life and also

my view on doctors and their blood tests!! Don't take no for

an answer!

Good luck :-)

I see the classic butterfly shape on my cheeks .it goes from next to my eyes and down to my mouth, across nose.

Please dont waste energy trying to educate your gp. Rather educate yourself so u can help yourself. Many have resorted to self medication and not looked back. Including me.
