I am awaiting ENT referral. My throat feels awful. So tight and I feel like im going to choke. No obvious swelling from the front. I am so worried as to what's going on. The gp has not referred me as urgent as he can't feel or see swelling but I can sure feel it from the inside of my throat. I can't sleep. It's ruining my day to day life with my family as im so worried every day. Is it worth visiting A&E?

Nov 2012 I had a half thyroidectomy for a 2.5cm benign nodule. Now a year later my tsh reading is 6.3. I feel awful.
Hi I can t answer your question on your TSH but can reassure you about tightness in your throat it does take a while to settle down after surgery I had a TT and it took months to feel normal again.Have they put you on thyroxine?was your thyroid underactive before surgery?
Ask to see the surgeon again so she can check it out.I still have feeling of choking when I lean forward to wash my hair or yawn etc.I just feel I will have to live with it.
My scar is much higher on my throat than other people I know who have had same op.this might have something to do with it.
Good luck hope you feel better soon

Thank you for replying. My levels were 'normal' before surgery but looking back and having done my own research on how I was feeling at the time I think I was overactive. In the past year since surgery ive been feeling sluggish, tired and dizzy spells. I would get a dull ache at my thyroid area if I stretched awkwardly. Its only been from Christmas that everything has gone out of wack! My energy levels are in my boots! My throat feels swollen making it difficult to swallow at times and my throat keeps making gurgling noices. Really freaking me out. Its the surgeon that did my op that im being referred to so hopefully ill get answers. It was a scary roller coaster last time finding out results which were thankfully benign but just terrified that im facing it all again. It affects the whole family as they too worry as to whats going on next.
I wish you well after your TT. Hope all is settling for you.
Ive been put on 25mg of thyroxine (a month ago) until such times as I see ENT. Its not making a bit of difference.
I wa s like htis last week -advised to go to A&E cos couldnt get to see dr -they ddi bloods ecg and a chest xray(not sure why)but not a throat scan?uss? then after 3 hour stold they couldn't find anything wrong-another fob off! left my dogs at home alone for the 8 hour so it took to get there and back and time spent there.have had tightness fro a year and dr not done anything just says "your glands aren't up",see what he says on Friday??
Hey anbuma.
Thanks for the reply. Ive had this since the week before Christmas. Doc tried anti biotics which did nothing then decided to refer me to ENT on the 10th jan. Im still waiting to hear from them. Doc says it could take 18 weeks. It worries me that there is some sort of growth that is just not showing from the front of my neck and is being ignored. Im really fed up with feeling like this now. I just need answers. I got more blood results on fri which stated my thyroid levels were normal now. This goes for nothing as last year I had a large thyroid nodule when my thyroid blood results read normal! Just wish it would clear up. I wake up in the morning and my heart sinks when I realise my throat still feels like this. Typical nhs that are happy to leave folk in such distress for so long. Do you have thyroid trouble? I have never had any bother with mine till sept 2012 . Nobody else is bothered with thyroid issues in my family..just unlucky me!
