Hi sued007, I had half of my thyroid removed in August. I bought new pillows as had to sleep propped up. Laying down hurt. Hospital told me to take co codemol or paracetamol regularly.

I drank often through a straw as it was easier. Avoided food that was too dry, ate in small bites as it hurtto swallow.

I was shocked with the size of my scar and how it looked at the time, but now its faded and shrank quite a bit.

Good luck x

Hi sued007. I had a TT at the end of September. It was a lot better than I expected. The pain I managed with paracetamol for a few days. I too slept in extra pillows as it was more comfortable and I found my head was very heavy to move if that makes sense. My scar is about 5 inches and looks pretty bad to start to with but now 3 1/2 months on its really good and fading well. Recovery from the operation was a lot better than I thought it would be. I wish I could say finding the right levels was as easy! Good luck xx

Hi Sued007,

I had a TT for a large goitre 2 years ago. I'm not usually a big one for painkillers but a v nice doctor told me to take what I was offered and not try to soldier on - I'm very glad I did and it was fine . Obviously sore for a week or 2 but that is to be expected. Scar not too bad at all although I did feel I wanted to wear a scarf for quite a while. I now have a great collection and loads of friends and my children bought them for me.

It is lucky you found this site as the help and support is fantastic.

Best of luck with the operation x

Partial thyroidectomy 3 weeks ago. 2 hours in Recovery after op. Felt nauseous and had severe shakes after op. Wrapped in thermal blankets and forced heat put in bed. Nobody mentioned this could be problem beforehand. Sore throat for 48 hours afterwards . Teary afterwards. Felt better after 4 days. Complete recovery by one week.

Scar is very neat and thin. Once dressing off about 10 days after op have rubbed bio-oil into scar 3 times a day and can hardly see it. Shame bio oil so expensice £20 a bottle from Asda! Nobody said to me "what's that scar on your neck?" I am surprised about that.

Be thankful you only have to have op done once. Lots people because of inconclusive FNAs have operation to remove half of thyroid, have to wait weeks for biopsy results to

determine if they have thyroid cancer or not and if it is cancer have to have the opertion carried out again.

You have nothing to worry about.

im more worried as they are going to go in through my side also which will mean breaking ribs and cutting muscle as well as deflating my lung to give better access i will therefore have the large cut on y neck as well as a large cut on my side which is the one im really worried about the pain. i dont seem to be able to find anyone who has had this double procedure to remove a goitre on this site for a tt ?
