Not got hashimotos have you? The thyroid, when under attack can give out excess hormones, but it oes not last for that long..... Eventually the thyroid is overwhelmed and gives up..... Chasing this disease by lowering and raising meds is not a great way to treat it. Best to get on to a decent dose in the first place, so that the tsh never rises and the thyroid can lie dormant.... The excess hormones when provoked by an attack should be mopped up by the body making reverse t3 .
I don't know. Are you sure you are hyper, - sweating, weight loss, ravenous, heat intolerant or is the thyroxine making you toxic? Which produces the same sorts of symptoms more or less, you can tell by a blood test if you have over the reference high free t3 along with a vey low tsh.
I had my antibodies measured after being treated for about 15 years and they were raised at 1767, so I think I was still putting up a fight..... You could still have antibodies at 11 years.
Over the top of range free t4 doesn't necessarily mean you are hyper, it has to be over on free t3 ad there is no guarantee it converts into free t3. However, if the free t4 doesn't convert into free t3, then it needs to be got rid of. So it converts into reverse t3, which is inactive, so that in turn can be broken down and eventually got rid of.
There is a difference, - which seems to have got very muddled in the minds of the endocriminologists, - between being hyper because the feedback system has failed, thereby allowing you to convert too much t4 into free t3, and between having too much t4 stacked up, doing nothing much except making you toxic.
I think I would be wanting a free t3 measurement, as well as a urine test to see how much of it you are using. A reverse t3 test at the same timeI as the free t3 would be useful, but I rather think your doc will just roll his eyes here. Maybe have a look at private tests with Genova or one of the other labs?
