Hi BY fine, what were the tests + ranges, print out? T4 should be only in the top third of range and FT3 near the top, never over. I would also if having the T3 go on it more slowly, ie start with 5mcg , gradually go up to 20 mcg, then it is split to about 12 hours apart, daily dose.T4 is normally reduced first but it depends on the exact results + ranges.Any way always a reblood test, TSGH, T4 and Free T3 6 weeks after meds altered.

Was this an Endo? Private doc? GP? GP`s are not normally good on thyroid.A private doc overdosed me years ago, being just a thyroid doc and not an Endo ( totally different).going on symptoms, very ill. Endo would be very careful. Hypo and Hyper symptoms can be the same, mine were. It is the bloods and ranges that count.

I hope that helps,

Jackie

Not necessarily. You were feeling bad so your T4 might have been OK but not your T3. Adding the T3 might be like adding the missing piece. You don't always need to reduce the t4. See how you go. Hope it works for you.

Merry Christmas!

I don't understand why they are giving you T3, if your blood levels were fine. adding t3 seems strange to me. When you say you were feeling bad, that doesn't tell us in what way. having thyroid issues, we often feel bad. Sadly feeling bad is normal for thyroid patients, more so now days, because the doctors muck us around with over dosing us with thyroxine, when sometimes, we don't need as much as they say. I personally woudn't take the t3, if my bloods were normal.I personally would wait it out for a few weeks, and just take note on how I feel. You may come right, with time.

As Yellow hasn't said what the bloods were but has said s/he felt bad, it is entirely appropriate to treat his/her symptoms. Most of us wish our doctors would treat our symptoms and not our lab results.

I am responding regarding the 20 mic's of Cytomel, Liothyronine, or T-3. My TSH was at a high of 27. Yes, out of whack again at 27. I am from the States so I am going to assume the UK and the States are similar in levels. I was given 5 mics twice a day. After two weeks of feeling pretty good I had to go out and have my blood work retested on my own after a month and a half. I was going hyperthyroid from the T-3 and my TSH dropped to below normal. I originally made my Endo drop the T-4 as they raised it at the same time as giving T-3. That was not the right thing to do and I knew it. I made them lower it back down to 125 mcg's. from 137 mcg's. I am now also taking only 5 mic's of T-3. I am converting t-4 just fine on the 5 mic's of t-3. I initially thought it was a miracle drug because I felt so good. I was wrong again. Some doc's play with this drug and I believe it is not a drug to play with. A very low dose if you are not converting in my humble non medical opinion. Talk to your doc. (Good luck, there). Watch out for palpatations and flushing. Good luck. Feeling a bit hyper?
