I've read alot on the forum and elsewhere about mercury and amalgams. I've decided to get my mercury levels tested before going down the route of amalgam removal as I've read that this can make you worse for a while. How do I go about getting a mercury test? I don't want to ask a dentist who may have a vested interest! Like others on here, I was a victim of over-zealous drilling and filling as a child!
Many thanks!

I have read that the best test for mercury is a hair test. Blood and urine tests are said to be unreliable as if you have mercury poisoning your body has a problem clearing it, so it will be staying in your organs rather than being excreted in your urine etc. I had a lot of amalgams and had them removed after a hair test showed high levels of mercury. I first tried a specialist dentist but he wanted thousands, I'm not convinced he was very honest. In the end I just asked my own dentist and he used a dam during removal but he didn't have a separate oxygen supply.
I then did chelation and got very ill as a result. It took several years to get better again.
My private Dr uses Acumen laboratory for blood tests. It is based in Devon. There is no website at present but there is an email acumenlab@hotmail.co.uk. It is expensive and the results won't mean much to lay people! I think Dr Myhill may use this lab. I don't know if you can go direct. My mercury levels are decreasing very slowly (over a year!) and I've also recently had my amalgams removed. I don't eat large fish any longer which apparently contain mercury, especially tuna, cod and most salmon. Also, unbelieveably mercury was present in many innoculations in the past. I don't know for sure if this is still the case, but I'm not having the flu jab this year because the nurse couldn't tell me what was in the jab!
Detoxing mercury can take many many years and consists of improving detox pathways with plenty of fluid and multivitamins and minerals, especially magnesium.
I am not under Dr Myhill's care but her website is a good place to read more.
