I am devastated to hear of Dr Skinner's death. What a wonderful man who helped so many including me. Will anyone else be able to help us all? Will anyone else be so brave to take on the GMC and take his work forward?
Sadly missed: I am devastated to hear of Dr... - Thyroid UK
Sadly missed
I doubt it. Doctor's aren't trained the way Dr. Skinner was and he wasn't afraid of to face the GMC although it must be extremely stressful.
The only organisations to be relieved are the BTA/BFA/RcoP and the latest pronunciation to the Scottish Parliament by them is the same old story completely unchanged. No compassion for people who are either undiagnosed or medicated according to the TSH or remain very unwell on levothyroxine.
He will be sadly missed and many patients wont know where to turn to now.
I couldn't agree more. Dr Skiiner was my doctor for 2 years and I feel very honoured to have met him!! He recently started me on T(3) Liothyronine and even though I am not well, I know I would have gotten there eventually with his help!! He was an exceptional and brave man to do what he did, especially with the GMC constantly breathing down his neck!! This must have been so stressful for him!! What was the GMC thinking as Dr Skinner had made so many people well when all-else had failed!! I will truely miss this wonderful man, it's such a terrible shame!!
I agree with all the above as a patient of Dr S for over 3 yrs, I am so grateful for everything he did . I'm in a quandary as to whether to put myself through trying to tackle my Gp into taking over my treatment of 150mcgs thyroxine and 4 grains Armour - given in their view I don't have a thyroid problem - there is nothing wrong with me ! - or ordering from the Internet . Mind you I do wonder what the effect of that amount of medication would be on a "normal" person - personally I found it cured 5 yrs of alopecia, chronic fatigue and a whole range of other life limiting symptoms - but what would I know ? !!!
