Hi everybody, I was wondering if it was normal to experience abnormal beats. My GP thinks it may be due to my thyroid ?? sometimes its rapid beats that make me feel uncomfortable and unable to sleep. I find it happening at odd times, and can last for an hour or more sometimes. Does anybody else have this problem. It makes me most anxious

Missed heart beats
Hi. I never had the rapid heart beat but I did have a very slow heart beat with arrhymia and missed beats. Sometime, with the missed beats, my average heart rate was around 30 beats per minute. Even when it was a little faster I still had missed beats. It turned out to be my thyroid. I was on levothyroxine at the time and had never felt well on it despite my blood tests looking very good. Now that I am on t3 only my heart rate is quite normal and I no longer have the arrhythmia and missed beats that I have noticed anyway.
I think your doctor may well be right.

Hi I was sub clinical hypo and had missed beats, fast runs of heartbeat and palpitations before starting on Levo t4 only. They stopped completely after about 2 months after starting Levo.
Yes I have these. They can be quite frightening. My doctor wants me to have a monitor on for 24 hours to get an idea what my heart is doing. He didn't mention it being my thyroid. I am 50mg levo and have been for five years since being diagnosed. At the moment it's not too bad, but two weeks ago I had a really bad turn where my heart beat was all over the place. My hubby wanted to take me to hospital but I didn't go and it eventually settled. Please see your doctor and get it checked out. We think everything is caused by our thyroid but we need to be sure it's nothing else. Good luck
Recovered, I think your doctor is right that it is your thyroid but it wouldn't hurt to order an ECG to check that nothing else is amiss.
I had racing heart, missed beats, palpitations etc prior to Hashimoto's diagnosis and one ECG showed a slight arrhythmia, a prolonged QT interval, which means one beat is delayed and because it comes close to the next beat it feels like a missed beat. Palpitations were so extreme on Levothyroxine I had several ECGs which ruled out heart problems.
Hi , and thank you everybody for your support and feed back, its really comforting to know that others have similar experiences. I have had an e.c.g, and its showing that i have an incomplete Bundle Branch Block on the right side of my heart, with possible right enlargement ?? they said my heart was having problems with rapid beat ?? dont know what they mean by this, but they are only assuming that their is right side enlargement. It apparently is due to being undermedicated for such a long period of time, apparently. Nobody has suggested a Cardio but i may request seeing one myself.
Thank you so much for helping, and supporting me as i have nobody to ask these questions as i have no friends where i am living. Wished i could move back to England where i was born and grew up. Love you all xx
Before I was diagnosed I ended up in the er though I was having a stoke. I had an ekg done ......the doctor said it looked like at some point .......I had a mild heart attack....Said maybe I have lyme disease. Tested everything but thyroid.......I was not medicated for a long time and........ I believed it caused many problems....like you I had no one to talk to.......So thankful for the people here........I wish you the best xo Susita
I forgot I did have skipped heart beats it all got better after I got straight on synthroid xo
It's scary like you are afraid your breath could be taken away ....then it passes.....hang in there xo Susita
I also get it from time to time. It passes after about an hour and then I might not get it again for months. I don't know what causes it but when I get it I start getting a bit panicky and then it makes it worse. x
