I have been experiencing an ache in my throat and can't figure out what it is. Does anyone know what this is caused from?
HI If your voice and swallowing is bad, then it could just have swollen thyroid with nodules. if nodules always a biopsy to check. If t is more your throat, Is it dry?Lack of phlem sort of sticking together, especially if dry eyes, then it is Sjogren`s syndrome, autoimmune, very common, various treatments available. This is under a rheumy , who specialises in it. If throat itself, then an ENT man who specialises in throats. You will automatically have a catheter then for and endoscopy. It is very simple and done in clinic.
I hope that gives you some ideas.
Jackie.
Hi Ecozy,
Try not to worry; I went to the doctor's because my throat felt strange and he immediately said it could be a thyroid problem. That was how I came to be diagnosed as hypothyroid. Are you on levothyroxine? It might be that a slight increase in the dose would clear the problem up.
Have you been diagnosed with hypothyroidism? My first symptom was strange dry and aching throat. Now 7 years on my tongue is still swollen and I have to be careful eating as can get food stuck, I have an enlarged thyroid with nodules.

Same here. I felt this strange feeling, hard to swallow sometimes, and a sinking pressure feeling on my head and eyes. I really could not explain or figure out what it was. Now finally it was diagnosed as Low Active Thyroid, as this was just one of the long list of symptoms. This weird feeling around my neck and pressure was one of my second symptoms, after severe tiredness, which happened on and off for months, as I walked to the bus stop in the mornings, I suddenly would feel unwell, out of breath and couldn't swallow. It made me realise something was wrong. Now I am on Medication this thankfully has happens less often. I don't have a Goiter, as this has now been scanned, thankfully.
If you suspect you have a Thyroid problem its best to speak to your Doctor. …Don't give up…list your symptoms, so you don't forget, and keep going back to your Doctor. if they keep fobbing you off. You know your own body better than anyone…I pushed for 4 years…finally a Different Doctor actually listened to me. …Good Luck and I hope you find out what is wrong soon, …
Hi Tallmiss, I had to respond to your comment as I get this symptom too - for months I have thought that I was the only one with this!
I like yourself get a sinking pressure feeling on my head and eyes. I also get a pressure feeling in my neck also. Ultrasound was done last year on my thyroid and the ultrasound person reported it to be a little bulky on one side. Somewhere between the hospital department and my GP practice this report has been mislaid. Haven't had one done since.
I've been told I have high thyroid antibodies from a blood test done back in Jan - GPs have been very awkward in telling me anything definite about my illness being autoimmune, even with one of them going as far as to say antibodies in hypothyroidism is "irrelevant". But I've gotten somewhere in the end as a lovely female GP who believes a lot more in autoimmune disease has referred me to an endo.
Hi there,
It's now a year since I was diagnosed. I read everything I can........then forget 95% of it
As daft, and simple as it seems, my throat aches after watching TV at my son's house. It is mounted on the wall and I have to look up!
Sounds too simple? I painted a picture on my grandson's wall. As it meant looking up my throat played up for several days.
Hope you can rule put the various answers/tips. X
Hi,
I get throat aches too, also dry throat and trouble swallowing. I'm Hashi's, diagnosed in May 2013.

Thats interesting as they are now monitoring me too for Hashimoto. This seems so common now. There are loads of interesting and helpful videos now posted on Utube about Hashimoto. Which helps you understand the condition.

This is a typical feeling with underactive thyroid condition. It comes and goes. Mine usually gets worse in the summer, and when I increase my water intake , it eases. I think it gets worse if we get dehydrated. With a thyroid condition, we need extra water, as we get very dry, as you will notice, by your skin..But just sip water throughout the day, because if you drink too much, you can overload the adrenals, and we don't want that.
