my thyroxine has just been reduced from 150mcg to 125mcg daily and am having pressing sensation in my throat plus hoarseness. Is it thyroid?

When was it reduced? It usually takes a few days to feel effects, although some people are very sensitive to change and might experience symptoms quickly.

Do you have your results with ref ranges? Can you post them?

Reduced 5 days ago and no sorry don't have results but Doc wants a re test in 5 weeks.

Can I ask my GP for the readings and is this a thyroid symptom this feeling around my Adam's apple? Never had a problem in 20 years of taking Thyroxine.

Ask your GP's receptionist for a print out with the lab ref ranges. Do this every time you have tests.

It may be due to the dose reduction, the timing is about right. Thyroid might be attempting to do it's job after the reduction and feel a bit flabby, like an under used muscle.

It could be due to anxiety. The anxiety could be due to the dose reduction...

Request a blood test sooner if the symptom continues beyond a couple of weeks.

The first symptom I went to the docs about was the swelling/lump in my throat. I have been on NDT for a week and it has gone, after 3 months! So yes, I strongly believe it is due to your dose reduction.

I would be asking for a TPO test! see previous poster!

And TG antibodies too, you can have one without the other, like me ;-)

But if you are Hypothyroid and your T4 reading shows high normal surely the doc is right in reducing the dose.

What is NDT and what is a TPO test?

There is nothing wrong with being 'high normal' as long as you are within range. And he should be taking how you feel into account, not just the numbers! TPO and TG are the 2 types of antibodies that can cause autoimmune thyroid disease, which may mean that your levels fluctuate anyway.

NDT is natural dessicated thyroid, rather than the synthetic thyroxine you are on

I had blood tests as had a strange episode where my vision became distorted. Results only showed raised cholesterol (6.2) and raised T4. I am a female, aged 67 and slim which is unusual for this condition. Doc said it was not a TIA and yes I had taken my meds prior to the test. I have no problem swallowing.

Raised cholesterol is a hypothyroid symptom

Actually visual disturbances can be a symptom too.

I would say yes it's thyroid - imo.

I have continuous problems such as your with my Thyroid area. I believe it was due to being under medicated, my private consultant agreed it was, she upped my dose as the GP's wouldn't and it went. She warned me because of undermedication for a long period of time (approx 2 year) my Thyroid would pack up in about 10 months (now due) and my throat/Thyroid has started playing up again - just like you describe. After my recent complaints/feedback appointment with the GPs I am having more bloods taken.

Thank you everyone, I feel a little bit easier but can't believe how anxious I have become when out. I had got it into my head it was a heart problem, occasional feelings of a missed beat and then this lump thing. We're poor mortals!

just to say, I have a really aching throat lately , im borderline Hypo, was put on thyroxine 25mcg to try - It really helped, but GP took me off of it 4 wks ago and now all symptoms back with this added one! waiting to see an Endo thankfully.. so hoping they put me back on it!! Good luck. x

Saw nurse today she said my T4 was raised and T3 suppressed and to continue on the reduced dose of Thyroxine for another 4 weeks. I feel as if my heart is missing a beat at times and very anxious. Guess it's a waiting game.
