D102 gene test. As I paid for it as well as my younger sons test. My elder son and my brother as well are being tested for a faulty gene by NHS. It will be a special blood test sent to Great Ormond Street Hospital for analysis . We are under Whipps Cross part of the Barts/ Royal London Hospitals. So it maybe worth asking GPS for a referral.

By the way, that is actually the DIO2 gene (because it affects deiodinase).

Yes it is the D102 but it is a blood test. What is deiodinase?

No - it is the LETTERS D-I-O followed by the number 2.

(Not the letter D followed by the number one-hundred-and-two.)

Deiodinase is an enzyme (actually, a few enzymes) which convert T4 to T3, T4 to rT3, T3 and rT3 to T2. It is because a "faulty" gene means that one or other of these enzymes do not work properly that it is important to some people with thyroid issues.
