Check out the private testing from Genova and Blue Horizon on the main website here
thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
Alternatively, you could ask at your GP surgery if they would be willing to do it as a private test (hence you pay, not the NHS). I think some people ahve found that to be the easiest and cheapest route.
Hi Browny, If GP will not test, it is important to do TSH, T4 and Free T3 together Be sure to use a lab that your docs will accept. That is why I always use Blue Horizon, my NHS no longer will do itIf you go to their main site, finger prick or venous blood. My GP will fill the phial for venous blood but do not go to a private hospital for that. If you quote TUK 10 for a discount, It costs £60 to £70.May be you could do a finger prick, or venous blood for just FT3 at the same time as your tSH and T4 are done, that would be an option.
Best wishes,

Hi Jackie, many thanks for your reply, I don't know the difference between T3 and FT3. I am still all confused about it all
Hi browny, We all have had to learn ( doctors) There are 3 basic tests for thyroid. T4 which normally is best in top third of range.,ie not too high. The T4 should covert into enough Free T3 ( which is what you test), in the body, making the blood reading, high in the range, but in a lot of us it does not.We can tell this from the blood tests, If the T4 is high and the FT3 is low, then usually means we need more T3 given as a drug, separately to the T4, which often , then needs lowering. So, in that case you take both drugs. T3 must start on a very ow dose as very powerful, and ideally split 12 hours apart, it gives you a high, 2-3 hours after taking.. This is why some people take armour etc as it contains T4 and T3, apart from being a natural drug.Even then both blood tests ar very important . A lot of medics do not like armour etc or T3, but so long as TSH still measurable ( it lowers it a little) ,it is normally OK.
It makes such a difference to how one feels. never have a test after thyroid meds, 12 hours at least, especially T3 as it doubles the real result. Take the dose after the test.
I hope this is clear.
