Quoting from Thyroid UK website page on thyroid meds:

The Yellow Card Scheme is vital in helping the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to monitor the safety of the medicines and vaccines that are on the market.

You can report suspected side effects (also known as adverse drug reactions) to a medicine, vaccine, herbal or complementary remedy.

The yellow card system allows people to report drugs if they think they are defective. I reported the mercury pharma's own brand last week due, partly from my own experience of major heart palps when on this and secondly because so many people on here were reporting the same thing and my way of thinking was that there was just to many of us reporting the same symptoms for it to be right.

Have not heard anything back though.

If I am reading your question right you are saying that you don't feel well on normal levo since your Eltroxin has been stopped - is this right - if so then I'm afraid the yellow card system will not help. If you were on the mercury pharma own brand and had specific symptoms, like heart palps, then yes you are quite within your right to report it.

thanks for replying was wondering what it was, when first on thyroxine it was normal levo then i had first blood test in 26 yrs think i told you about that then they increased it but they changed brand to eltroxin never felt better lost nearly 4 stone then the chemist started giving me any brand they had in stock did ask chemist if i could have original prescription but he said there was no difference so been struggling on for years, have put all my weight back on am constantly on a diet my last doctor told me i was classed as obese but reduced my thyroxine sent me to w/w no joy put weight on have gradually got worse seen a new doc but all he say's is it's depression, my age or stress a new one on me is retirement low mood as i retired in january told him i wanted to retire and i would enjoy it more if i felt better and if he remembered i have felt like this for a long time but it's like talking to a brick wall won't do another blood test as he said my last one was normal and felt another one would'nt find anything different feeling a desperate now.

Have you had all your vitamins checked - just because you have enough thyroid hormone in your blood it doesn't mean it is going anywhere - it needs certain things to make it work properly and get where it is supposed to be, like B12, VitD, iron, ferritin, folates, and if any of these are not high enough then they could be causing you problems.

Have you had any of the above checked, if so please post results, if not please ask your useless GP to test them for you (and don't take no for an answer)

Just looked at your results and cant find any of the vitamins, are you sure you have had these checked - they will say B12, iron or ferritin and are definitely not on the list you posted.

sorry may have had these done after i posted but i know doc said everything was okay cos it was a new doctor and i had a talk with him about my medical history and he did seem concerned so had all test's done including cortisol but everything came back okay went with hubby 2 weeks ago and that's when he said it was retirement low mood and offered counseling or antidepressants which i refused and got a bit stroppy so loath to go back to him.

What your GP will say is o.k. will be anything but o.k. for a thryoid sufferer, for example the NHS will say a B12 level of 250 is o.k. because the NHS range is approx 190 - 900 BUT a thyroid sufferer needs there B12 to be approx 600 and, as you can see, there is a huge difference.

If I were you I would ask for copies of ALL your vitamin blood results and post them on here for people to comment. I think what you really must understand is that most GP know little about thyroid issues apart from what they have read in books so for you to except that your results are "normal" or "in range" from a GP will not be doing you any good.

You say that your levo is not working so something is stopping it but according to your GP every thing is o.k. when clearly it is not. I dont mean to sound horrible but you need to stop putting so much trust in your GP to do the right thing because he most probably hasn't got a clue what is the best thing regarding vitamin levels for a thyroid sufferer. Members on here have had GP's say everything is fine and when they get copies of their results they are clearly below the NHS range let alone whats best for a thyroid patient.

Please get copies of your vitamin results and post on here for people to comment.
