As a member who STILL can't stay logged in, I tend to skip these which seems a shame. Does anyone else continue to have a problem staying logged in ? I've told HU about it several times, but have never received a response that actually helped.
Why do so many people post questions/comments f... - Thyroid UK
Why do so many people post questions/comments for members only? What is the point?
Sue, I visit HU from more than one device, using different browsers and don't have any issues with staying logged in. In fact I can't remember the last time I had to log in on any of them. I suspect you are one of a small minority, and if HU's suggestions haven't worked, then there would seem to be a problem with your computer that needs sorting out. I do understand how frustrating this must be for you. However, members have every right to choose whether they want their Ps and Qs to be visible across the entire internet, or only to members of this forum.
I post as members only. I dont want anything medical to be searchable on google (other search engines are available)!
I do agree that it sound more like a browser issue, check your cookies settings, if you dont allow them then your password wont save on changing pages
Of course people want to guard their privacy, but I thought that was why we used code names. Do these actually not protect our anonimity?
As for the signing in problem, it looks as though there's nothing to be done. Husband experienced in IT can find nothing wrong with computer, so I'm just going to have to put up with the frustration.

Many people have signed up with names that clearly identify them. My advice would be always to use an alias which provides some amount of smoke-screen when signing up in public forums. You always have the option to say who you are at some later point if you wish.
Further, over time, people often post things that, taken together, reveal more than they want. Age in one post. County in another. Name of a relative in another. When they were on holiday (even if only because of a two-week gap in posting.) Without meaning to be paranoid, if someone really wanted to, they could analyse all of a person's posts and might find that 2+2 makes more than 4.
I find non-public posts/questions frustrating but I do understand and fully accept when there is personal information involved.
Last night I was simultaneously logged in on Safari, Opera, Firefox browsers on my PC, and Safari on my iPad, and on some browser on my phone. They all remain logged in happily for extended periods.
Have you tried different browsers?
Rod
Thank you for this really helpful response Rod. Of course you're right...but not being particularly paranoid these points simply hadn't occurred to me!
Thanks too for the advice to try another browser. I shall certainly try that, though the one I use is Firefox and most people don't seem to have a problem with it.
Didn't realise I'd hit the wrong reply button - I do know about 'reply to this' so that was a slip of the mouse.
Thanks again
Sue
I thought about this a while ago and thought of changing my username (if such a thing is possible on this platform) but it would probably confuse me and people who know me as CarolynB wouldn't know that I'm CarolynB except maybe from the length of my posts and responses! This one is atypically brief
Know what you mean!
I haven't seen the process of signing up since I did so - which was before the whole group was launched! I'd hope that it says in big letters Please choose a name that is NOT your real name and does NOT identify you. But I doubt it. We never know when we will care about these things and you really cannot go for the reasons you give - and because HU have not granted us that facility.
Rod
Thanks Susy. Cookies definitely allowed, so that's not the problem.
I'm just curious to know what risk there is in making the questions accessible to all. I thought our code names protected our identities?
Sue,
If you click on Reply to this two things happen. Your reply appears below and indented from what you are replying to. And the person you are replying to gets an alert.
As it is, your two comments simply appeared at the bottom of the list, not indented, and neither person you responded to will have had an alert.
Rod
Sorry if this is too obvious but have you checked 'remember history' under tools - privacy at the top of the Firefox browser?
Thanks - I checked, and it's definitely ticked ... it's in Firefox 'Preferences' by the way.
What version of Firefox are you running?
I am on 24.0 - and have Tools > Options - not Preferences.
Rod
I'm also on 24.0, but have a Mac - maybe this explains the difference in layout...though I can't see why it should stop me remaining logged in.
Sue
Hi Sue
I have pointed HU Tech at you, so I'm hoping you will get a more personal, hopefully helpful, response...

Thank you Louise - I appreciate that.

I mostly use Safari on Mac, although Firefox too at times and have no problems with either. Lion (10.7.x) on one and Mountain Lion (10.8.x) on another.
In case it helps track the source of your problem, can you mention what version of OSX you're using?
It's Lion 10.7.5. It's very good of you all to try and help me sort this! I'm very grateful.
