Antibodies
I'm not sure....possibly at the beginning of thyroiditis? I do believe some thyroiditis isn't long term (like post partum or subacute)? Sorry, more questions than answers!
Yes, even sudden trauma to the thyroid or certain illnesses can cause a spike of thyroid antibodies
It was 229 in 2012, just wondering if I should ask for another test
Are you being treated for hypothyroidism?
I am but the dr didn't want to and put me on 25mg levo
220 isnt that high in the grand scheme of things, mine are way over the 1000 mark, I know others on here are the same. No idea if they fluctuate, its not something that the doctors tend to test more than once, although mine have been tested twice, but probably only because I changed doctors and they didnt have my previous results.
If you have raised antibodies you almost certainly have Hashimotos. If your thyroid function tests were within what GPs consider 'normal range' some will be reluctant to prescribe levo, others will take a more pragmatic view and assume that you will need it eventually, so why not now if you have symptoms. The blood level of antibodies doesn't seem that relevant ( mine are off the measure able scale and have been for over a year) but Susymac above is correct that once they have detected them they rarely bother to retest.
