I am on 250mcg of thyroxine a day and my Anti TPO antibodies are 1376. I am cold 34.7 Celsius this morning and I have just been diagnosed with left ventricle hypertrophy and hypertensive cardiac disease. I am waiting for an operation for my parathyroid but they are now talking about a complete thyroidectomy including parathyroid. They are trying to stabilise my blood pressure as it is like to quote the doctor "a ballerina" and will not operate until it is stabilised. I feel like I have nowhere left to turn. I need advise on what to ask the doctors

Why are your docs suggesting removing parathyroids and thyroid? I am confused! Since your blood tests show you have high T4 and low T3, it may be your body is not converting the thyroxine, (T4) to active T3. Perhaps you could ask for Liothyronine, which is pure T3. Thyroxine is then usually reduced by 50 mcg for every 10 mcg of T3. Your heart and blood pressure problems could well be linked to your low T3 as basically you are hypothyroid and your body is affected accordingly. Do hope you get the right help but think hard before allowing the operations they are suggesting.

Yes I also have hyperaldesterone and hyperparathyroidism and I am coeliac. This is why they now want to remove my parathyroid as my calcium is too high and I have thyroid nodules that are hypoechoic on the radioactive scan. That is why they want to remove my thyroid. They won't give me T3 as they think it is contraindicated by my high blood pressure and the hyperaldesteronism.

Mia, how awful, they should try to get your blood levels up before doing anything else. I had read that undertreatment will cause problems with the left ventricle as well as a lag on the r wave will appear on an EKG. Refusing to treat you and causing the side issues which now have to be addressed is ridiculous. I agree with Hennerton. Try to get T3, I had more palpitations with T4 than T3.

I am so sorry Mia, that you have these horrible problems. Is it possible for you to seek a second opinion? I just feel that losing your parathyroids mean you will have to take calcium for life and thyroidectomy means also lifelong treatment. I had a Thyroidectomy 8 years ago and finding the right treatment has not been easy. I do wish I had known more and not believed everything my endo said about how simple it would all be. Surely there are other treatments? Do hope you can find some good advice. xx
