Does this mean you have an underactive thyroid?

Not really someone that is euthyroid will also lose weight when on thyroid meds and when they first released the synthetic T3 and T4 i believe that they were also marketed as a weight loss drug which went horribly wrong as 'healthy' people can get heart problems when taking these drugs which is why drs are so scared to overmedicate us

what about natural thyroid medication instead of synthetic, if you are losing weight on natural med, does it mean you are hypothyroid? x

The thing is the hormones you are replacing when you take any kind of thyroid hormone replacement are hormones that control your metabolism and therefore could help with losing weight. To be honest though for most of us the weight doesnt just drop off its is still diet and exercise and still though and very slow

my doc said I have mild under active thyroid so didn't need medication. I thought I could trial a supplement called country life thyroid max and that is what is helping me lose weight. It contains thiamin, ltyrosine, niacin, riboflavin and manganese. Thanks

The supplement might just give your thyroid that little boost it needs to function properly, if it works for you keep at it

I had a look and its a supplement to support your own thyroid it doesn't actually contain any form of thyroid hormone so you should be fine if it works for you keep using it this wont give you heart problems.

like Mcoates says, you can be NON hypothyroid and lose weight on thyroid meds and you can be hypothyroid and NOT lose weight on thyroid meds (like me for example LOOOOOL)

I gained on thyroxine but then I don't think my body was using it. I felt awful! Now on t3-only I am losing weight very, very slowly with a lot of effort! Not good in my case! I need to lose about 5 stone!

After 18 yrs on T4 only and having gained over 2 stone in weight, I have taken it off over the last 2 yrs, mostly on T3 only but with the help of the Paleo diet too. This summer alone about a stone went off. Can't quite believe it.......
