Mysthenia gravis: I was diagnosed yesterday with... - Thyroid UK
Mysthenia gravis
You will probably have to go for neurophysiology testing on your muscles and probably MRI scan to rule out other possible problems.
Hope you get on OK.
My GP once thought I had this. I went through the testing, which was negative. In the end it turned out to be thyroid related and in time, with appropriate thyroid medication things improved. I hope this is the case for you too.
Thanks for the replies I had the blood text months ago and be we heard back so assumed all ok it was only when I was explaining to the endo all my symtoms he looked onto the system and found the results that's when he said its looks like u do have it as he said that u should be a 3 or under on this text and mine was at a 9,
Many years ago I was taken into hospital with chest pain one of the young consultants thought I had Mysthenia Gravis,,,,,,,,,she assumed I had it by the way I looked !
For a young consultant she was very knowledgeable.
I went on to tell her I had Hypoparathyroidismthis was one she had not come across so she looked it up on the computer.........the Mysthenia Graves asumption was dropped.
Would you be kind enough to let me know how it affects you & what tests are needed to rule it out ? Jillymo X
Hi
I have had double vision for about 2 yrs it doesn't really effect my daily life as they are more like after images my left eyelid also droops but only a little bit, I do get breathless and my arm and leg muscles are also weak my balance is terrible feel like I can't walk in a straight line but having said all that I do have some days when I feel on top of the world I also swim 3 times a week which I think helps even thou I am exhausted when I get out the pool, I only had the blood test to rule it out as the eye doctor that I was seeing for the double vision could find no reason for my double vision but it came back positive hths
I also have Myasthenia Gravis (ocular) and have had double vision for over 20 years. I'm sure I read somewhere of a link between ocular myasthenia and hypothyroidism
I think there is a link between the two can I ask you how it's effects your life ?thanks
I have had periods of ivig treatment, steroid and pyrodistigmine treatments over the years. However, most of the time I've not taken anything and have managed the double vision without too much problem. It is not generalised although when I suddenly feel lifeless (rag doll ), I go to bed for an hour and then usually I feel okay. I work full time in a primary school.
In the very early days, I suffered with ptosis in both eyes (drooping eyelids) but I'd not had that since. Until now…
Since last November I seem to never be away from doctors and hospitals. I had partial thyroid removal and suffered two very bad infections. That led to shingles in my head and Bell's Palsy.
The ptosis has returned quite badly and one eye is firmly closed so I'm now back on the meds. I don't think this is helped by still feeling rubbish with thyroid symptoms.
You have to laugh though don't you?
For a month, I could not close either eye due to Bell's Palsy and had to tape them closed at night. Now I can't bloody open them lol!
Sorry for the long reply
