Diagnosised hypo with:

tsh 7

t4 15

started 50mg

tsh 0.05

t4 15

tsh 4.61

t4 15

asked for increase

started 75mg

12/6/13

tsh 0.05

t4 29(high)

t3 8.8(high)

gone down to 50/75mg alternate downs and feeling rough again.

tsh 0.64

t4 15(12-22)

t3 4 (3.1-6.8)

I cant understand how 50mg and 50/75mg alternate days my t4 stays at 15 but take it to 75mg everyday is double?

What would be a middle ground to get my t4 to say 20 to see if i feel better.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Lots of doctors use the alternate day method to get the best results. It depends on how you feel rather than the numbers although they are a doctor's guideline . It also takes a long time to feel better.

Can I ask how long you left it between being given just 50 and your first blood test?

I too am sensitive to minor tweaks but after 2 years and persuasion on both sides (me and my GP) we kept on the same dose for a 6 week, then 8 week then 3 month checks whilst staying on the sane dose.

Finally by the third test my levels came within range and I feel ok. Not brilliant but better than any time in last two years.

My advice would be don't be too quick to change your dose and if one set of bloods high/low then leave it few more weeks and retest on same dose, before making any changes. Good luck.

I think i may need longer time on 75mg but dont think doctor will agree now and dont have enough tablets to try it , when i was on 75mg i still felt undermedicated ,had no hyper symptoms at allx

I'm lucky (in one way) that my GP let's me tweak my dose as needed. He still thinks its psychological but will help with dose as long as levels within parameters. Alot of the go with your symptoms stuff on here is good advice, but after two years I have to say I feel more human now than ever (maybe 80% of former self) but I did it by getting my levels right/balanced first and have the thyroxin time to work. All the 6/8 week theory didn't work for me. I had to give it longer and when having really awful days tell myself in the long run it would work out. I still get a few aches, tiredness and hair breaking but def more settled now. It's not quick fix unfortunately :)

It may be that you need to take 50mcg during the week and 75mcg at the weekend, or some other slightly weird combination. I am on NDT and am taking 2.5 grains 6 days a week an 2 grains 1 day per week. Getting the fine-tuning right can be tricky :D xx
