Lyn's poll about GPs ordering T3

I've just seen Lyn's new poll asking people if their GP has ordered a T3 test, did the lab actually do the test. I've never managed to get as far as having a T3 test - even when my GP ordered a T4 test and wrote on the form that it was required by the Endo the lab refused to do it!

Mine would not do the T3 test either so i rang the lab and ask why they said only endos can request this test, great isnt it x

My G.P. requested TSH and T4 but I asked nurse who took the blood if T3 was to be tested she said it has not been requested but then said oh lets go for the full lot and wrote T3 on form but the lab did not test it, so annoying.

Might be a good idea to redo the poll with inclusion of town or zone. I've never had any problems down here in Brighton....Valerie

Ive ticked yes, although it was TT3 not FT3 but it was done on request from the GPs at both my local lab here and the one where I used to live in a totally different area. Unfortunately half the labs do TT3 and half the labs do FT3, but never both. Maybe the wording of the poll should be changed to just T3 test.

The criteria for labs to do the test, which is at their discretion is either the patient is on meds containing T3 or the patient is hyper/overmedicated, as far as I'm aware they do not routinely test for within range/hypo or on levo only

Same here. I requested Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, ferritin and folate testing, and the doctor decided to test for hypo as I'd mentioned it. I asked about T3 (which I had to explain to her) and she said there wasn't an option to request that, just TSH and T4. Literally a case of "computer says no"!
