Have you asked this in the Heart UK community on here? They may have more knowledge of heart surgery. If you click on Communities in the green bar and then Find a Community you should find it in the A-Z.

Hi The British heart foundation, help line. Brillant cardiac nurses, if you ask for them. are very good. However, if you have seen a cardiologist, they usually refer you to the best surgeon.otherwise do lots of research, get names off hospital sites, look them up on private hospitals, more info there, but not safe to use privately, any way,Also look their names up on the WEB ,most have their own sites. Ask the GP but do not rely on their choice. Pick a large teaching hospital.Success results are not a good guide as they do not take in the other factors.Ask as many people as possible.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Personally I think the best care is the top priority and a surgeon who listens, some cardio`s of all types are so arrogant.I speak from lots of experience.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Yes you are right ...and the Cardiac Centre is a completely seperate building set apart from the main hospital.

My husband had major heart surgery ( but this was aortic valve replacement ) at the Chest Clinic at Bethnal Green,London. It was said at that time that he couldn't have been in better hands.( 2009) For his follow up rehab classes we used to go to the Cardiac Centre at Basildon Hospital where we met other heart patients who had been very happy with the treatment they'd received there.

Bear in mind that this was a few years ago but he is in very good health.

Hope this might help.

many thanks, we are looking into the one at basildon, as we heard they are good

You will get lots of support at Basildon Cardiac Centre. When I went with my husband for his rehab classes I met with others who were there in support and while the patients were doing their exercises we would all go for a coffee in the cafeteria and discuss progress. It was a great help.As people finished their courses and left ,there would be new people join the group. The British Heart Foundation also provided a whole set of booklets on diet, exercise etc.It all helps towards a healthy, speedy recovery.

Good Luck. I am sure you would be in good hands.

PS....My husband has a full life again .....18 holes of golf and bowls matches each week.

Hi there Pinkstar...I am pleased for you that you have made your choice and wish you all the best....I hope you don't have to wait too long.Of course,.......there is a very well known cardiac surgeon who operates there, but I am not able to name people here.

I am going there myself ( Endocrinological Department) to see an Endo for the first time in November.

Hi Pinkstar, i would suggest you take a look at the scts.org which is the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery

in England and Northern Ireland.Go to the heading Patients and click and you can see Patient Outcomes heading You can choose Hospitals or Surgeons you can now get an overall idea of the Hospitals and of the Surgeons Statistics and each Heart Procedure they have completed over a 3 year period.

It can be important to travel to get the best surgeon which can be one of the most important factors.I have asked a lot of questions of many surgeons in the UK and USA and been lucky enough to get replies. BTW Hospitals can arrange transport needs to and from the Hospital.

University Hospital Southampton is another good choice .
