Radioactive thyroid scan

Hi all

I finally saw my endo last Monday who has confirmed graves. He has doubled my carb from 20mg to 40mg and will introduce block and replace.

I'm having a radioactive scan tomorrow and I'm feeling a bit nervous.

Can anyone tell me please what to expect from your experience.

Thank you

Emma

Hi Emma,

You go in and they inject the stuff into your arm. Then you wait a bit. Then you go in to have the scan. Can't really remember exactly what it was like, I know you have to lie very still for a while, and it feels a bit claustrophobic as the scanner thing is right over your neck and head. No pain involved, I remember the worst part being that I really wanted to move - having Graves does not go with lying still!!! They tell you nothing, you just go home and carry on as normal, results get sent straight to Endo. I was never on block and replace, just took carbi on it's own. I don't really know the pros and cons of one versus the other.

Thanks for the reply. It was fine. I got a bit warm and like you say it's hard to lay still.
