Hi there, I take it that you can't seep either, not all lumps are cancerous and not all cancers are deadly, try to take each day or indeed each hour as it comes until you know what you are facing, I understand how difficult this will be for you but dealing with what is happening in the here and now will help you cope. Hi Rimsha

It is really understandable you are scared but although it is unlikely to be the result of cancer, it is important that you have it investigated.

According to the NHS website most cases of lumps or swelling are caused by non-cancerous swellings called goitres or nodules. A goitre is an enlarged thyroid gland and it can become enlarged due to one or more multiple swellings (nodules) within the gland caused either by hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Both of these thyroid conditions are very common so it is not surprising that goitres are common too.

I had a very large goitre cause by over active thyroid. It scared me witless and it's natural because we all immediately associate lumps with something sinister. I had a very young family at the time too so I really empathise with your situation.

Obviously it can't be 100% confirmed without further testing but thyroid cancer is still very rare but also has the best rates of a full cure of any cancer.

You won't rest in your mind until you have had your results so it is pointless anyone telling you not to worry. I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better - thinking of you xxx

Please don't worry.........I had the operation done 7 years ago. My biopsy showed that my thyroid was suspected of having cancer but it was all fine. I had the right side of my thyroid removed & I was extremely worried about the operation. It does take a while to recover from the op. so I do hope you have some help with the children for a couple of weeks afterwards. The scar was no where near as bad as I thought it was going to be & now it hardly shows at all. When your neck has healed, make sure you rub some moisturising cream into the scar everyday to keep the scar supple.

Good luck xx

i had a left lobectomy 4 weeks ago, unfortunatly mine did turn out to be cancer and am now going to have the right side out, i was fine after my 1st op and only had paracetamol on the afternoon of op, i had to have lobe done as fnb came back as thy 3 which means follicular neoplasm bu indeterminate if cancer so thats why i had the lobe removed, you will probably be fine everyone says its rare, but not so for me,good luck

I had thyroid cancer 7 years ago and everything has been fine. Like any op, just take things easy and take all the help and support you can. I have had no problems since and live a normal life.

Please try not to worry - the waiting for results etc is the worst thing! Ask as many questions as you need to. This is the easiest cancer to deal with apparently and the success rate is almost 100%. All the best and be glad that it's been found and is being dealt with.

You will be fine. I had my surgery on 13 September. I am recovering well and can still do a lot of things. Its not painful, only having stitches or staples removed hurts a bit. But overall you will be ok. I should be back to work and the end of my 2 weeks off.

Hi, I had a lump on the right side and have just had a lobectomy. I had the op at 1.30pm and was breastfeeding my 6 month old at 6.30pm. It isn't too bad, I just need help lifting her etc. the hard part is the waiting for the results! The surgeon told me that worst case scenario is that I would have to have the other side removed as well. Hope all goes well for you xx
