I have had blood tests and was told my calcium levels were low due to a gland behind my thyroid gland therefore I have been put on the above tablets. since November last year to now I have put on 3lb per week could this have anything to do with the low calcium.

hello everyone. I am a new member to this site. My doctor has put me on adcal d tablets. Very confused.
take you temperature love, if it's low you're hypo.. the adcal is vitamin D3 plus calcium and will make you feel much better.
although it's usually only 800i.u of vitamin D3 per day.. when I was prescribed it, I took it.. but helped it by adding 5000i.u of vitamin D3!
It depends what your Vitamin D level was.. mine was in my boots but you do need 80 to feel top according to the books
Seriously, your temperature is the best guide as to whether you have a thyroid issue.. take it every morning before you get out of bed and see if there is a pattern and see if it's low..

If you have a problem with underactivity of the parathyroids you need to be seen by an endocrinologist. If you have a diagnosis you need to be taking alfacalcidol which is a stronger vit D (hormone), calcium and D3 is not going to do anything to treat the problem. You may have low Vit D as well so supplementing with vit D may be good, but if you are diagnosed hypoparathyroid Vit D will not help.
Make sure that you are seen by a specialist, many GPs dont know what they are doing with this as it is quite rare.
