Got third thyroid result: 1st result 6.1, 2nd result 6 weeks later 5.5 and latest 6 wks later is 7.3.

Phoned the receptionist for result and she said there was a prescription - they have decided to treat. I have been put on 25mg levothyroxine. (seems small). Also they didn.t say if I had to get retested or not. Perhaps this is just going to be the recommended dose. Any ideas anyone?

You should make an appointment to have a blood test in about 4 weeks time, seeing you are on such a small dose.

Get a print-out of your tests plus the ranges and post here for someone to comment. It should then be increased to 50mcg approx 6 weeks later, another blood test and so on until you feel well. The GP should aim for a TSH of 1 or below but some will tell you that you have reached a level within the normal range. When you feel well, that should be your optimum level but there can be variations sometimes for one reason or another.

Get a booklet from Amazon by Dr Toft so that you read up on it so that you can get well. You can also point out what Dr T says if your your GP has a different idea.

Thanks Shaws, rang the receptionist and she said to come back in 6 weeks for another blood test. So hopefully will feel a bit better by then.
