RE NDT/Armour?

I am thinking of trying this, how much would it cost me per month to do this? I don't think my GP will support me but my pharmacist has said I should try on my own. Also should I try levo and NDT together to wean myself off the Levo?

You don't need to wean off levo because it has quite a long half-life. I stopped my levo one day and then started with 1/2 grain of NDT a day for a couple of days. I had no adverse reactions so increased to 1 grain. I was able to increase by 1/2 grain every week until I got to 2.5 grains at which point I had to wait a couple of weeks. After 3 grains I found I needed to wait 4 weeks before I could successfully increase.

As regards price, I don't get mine on prescription (although GP is supporting me) so I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer that one for you :)

Thank you....Carolyn did you have to find a supportive GP and change? Do you get Armour for free? I am seriously thinking of trying this, I have so many days when I feel achey and sluggish forgotten what it feels like to be pain free! I just know my GP will not be receptive as they just tell me as it's hormonal my bloods will fluctuate. I have them taken today so I will find out on Friday what the results are, basic as they are...

He's supportive but isn't allowed to prescribe NDT or T3 even though he was quite willing to, so I have to pay for my NDT. I am planning to change GP purely because it's more convenient to where I live and work. I'm hoping they might be a bit more open to prescribing!

How is it then that some people are able to get it prescribed on the NHS in the UK? I am sure I have read this somewhere, is NDT expensive?

Yes, some people do get it on prescription so it is always worth trying. It will depend on the thoughts of your GP practice and/or the PCT. The senior partners overruled my GP but I don't know whether this was their decision or whether it came from the trust.

My GP does a private prescription and I then buy my NDT. Just paid £44 inc delivery for 150x 1grain (60mg) Erfa.

This does not appear to go in my notes so am hoping she never leaves, goes on maternity or under a bus!

Hope this gives you some idea of what it costs in this country.
