I have been diagnosed with an under active thyroid and been given 75mg of levothyroxine , I am getting chest pain and palpitations

Hi Gabbz,

I used to suffer these symptoms with certain brands of Levothyroxine. I've found I am best on Eltroxin/Mercury Pharma brand and asked my GP to name this brand on my prescription.

But also in the early days of my treatment I found I had palpitations and chest pain, as my dose was increased, especially when increasing from 25mcg to 50mcg, because in effect I was doubling my dose.

I found any symptoms, usually settled within 6 weeks. It seemed to take that long for my body to adjust.

You have possibly been started on too high a dose. Some people find it better to start on a low dose and increase it slowly. Might be worth discussing this with your doctor.
