...you can have it done privately ...check out the main Thyroid UK website for information and discount I believe. I think it is because of costs and because the labs probably do not understand it is the MOST important of the thyroid tests !! They are trained to think the blessed TSH test is the Gold Standard....hope you get one soon.. :-)

Where we live in the South West we routinely get T3 tested each time, it is T4 we have a problem getting done.

That's unusual, but probably more useful that just TSH.

You could suggest to the doctor that he/she writes "suspect a conversion problem from T4 to T3" on the blood form - maybe the lab would take note of this and do the test? xx

That's outrageous - how date a lab not do a test the dr has requested. The T3 is the most important test as far as I can see. X

If the TSH is within the ref range the labs may not do any other thyroid gland request.

just a suggestion .....my gp always adds [ under the tests -- t3/t4/vitd etc ] in capital letters ' tests requested from consultant ' on the blood test form that goes to the lab .......and they have always been done ..... may be useful to ask your gp to add this next time.......alan

My doctor now writes on the blood test request "?not converting" and then they seem to do it. May be worth a try.
