I've found that stress destroys my hypo health and I'm always working on ways to understand and manage this more effectively.
From one of my favourite writers, here's an excellent piece on stress and management. There are also links to adrenal health for optimising and working on this.
Although this article is primarily aimed at high achieving athletes (which I am not and never have been!) there is a lot of info here which I find applies to me and which I can use to support management of my condition.
In terms of athlete training, the writer of this article, Ben Greenfield, is not a fan of over training and recommends moderate training for maximum benefit. This is one of the reasons why I get so much out of his work.
Hi Hanama. I'm pleased you found it interesting. Yes - the energy for exercise is a tricky one when we have thyroid issues, but I've found it useful to take what I can use from Ben's blogs. I've found working on my stress level has made a difference to my wellbeing.
Best wishes.
Thanks for this article Liza......Later today I shall read with interest.
I've had plenty of stress over the years and have thought it wasn't helping my thyroid.
Indeed many years ago my eldest son who has a degree in philosophy told ...."your mind and your body are connected mother" they're not seperate from each other!!!!!!
I just seem to be a very sensitive person, maybe why I lean toward the arts and creativity.
Right now must get some time in my garden before it gets too hot to work...it's such a beautiful morning here in Essex.X

Hi Marfit - what a remarkable son you have! Recently I have also learnt this and taken it on board to help my thyroid.
I watch my stress levels now as closely I watch out for my thyroid symptoms returning. I walk away from places, situations, people who can damage this and I've learnt better ways of managing situations I can't walk away from.
Gardening is a great one for healing and levelling stress - enjoy! It's a little cloudy here right now, but looks promising. xx
I'm pleased you found it helpful. Have a lovely day, whatever you are doing! x
Thanks Liza ,Yes he's a great guy and though we are miles apart academically( he has 3 degrees) he shows great feeling for other people and is always good to talk to.Unfortunately he lives in Scotland.
My other son has a teenage son16 yrs. and a daughter 14 yrs and lives way off in the Cotswolds,so we don't see much of family.
I took up painting when my sons left home having previously supported them in their sport for years and my husband took up bowling in retirement and I didn't much fancy that.
I made good progress and eventually was invited to have an exhibition with two friends,to support 2 local charities which was successful.
However a great deal of family stress has since left me lacking in confidence and motivation and I haven't painted for 3 years.......I am though beginning to feel ready to get my brushes out again, just for my own enjoyment.
I admire the fact that you are managing stress that you have to live with and would love to have a few pointers on how you do it.
I try to put my problems behind me and get on with life but find it very hard.
I don't want to go into details here, but do believe my stress is not helping my thyroid.
I'm now going to read the article you sent this morning ....it has become too hot to work outside.!! x

How lovely to hear about your family Marfit - thank you! I'm sorry you don't see them so much.
Well done with your painting - I hope you start again. I do understand about the lack of confidence and how this can effect your motivation. This happens to me too.
It's always an ongoing battle to put the stress behind and I'm convinced it destroys our well-being. I find the Serenity Prayer helpful, and I often try to remind myself of this;
'God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.'
I try to remember that some situations or people cannot change and the best thing to do is to limit the damage this can do to me. For me, this often means simply stepping away.
I've become very strict about protecting my well-being...
Enjoy your garden!

Oh Liza.....you have just quoted my favourite prayer to me...how weird is that? We are seemingly on a similar course. If I say that I've had "Daughter in Law " problems on and off for nearly 21 years and keep continually getting put down without anyone telling me why.....it's a real puzzle to my family and friends who can't understand it.I think you will understand why I have that prayer by me.I have to stand back away from it as I don't want to cause any stress to my son...there is enough of that involved in bringing up families these days, however I do wish they would at least let me understand what it is all about,as regardless,I love them all.
Let me finish with another prayer from a little card that I have on my wall....
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends.
Have a good week,
Margaret X

Thank you Margaret for that lovely prayer. Yes, we do seem to be on a similar course.
For me, there is also accepting that perhaps there is no understanding - perhaps people cannot explain or provide a logic for why they behave a certain way... sometimes they just are this way and there can be no understanding. Then I tell myself that whatever it is, whatever path they are on, this is about them and not about me.
This comforts me, and frees me so that I can love.
There's also a wonderful piece from Mother Teresa who is talking about these issues. She finishes with 'For you see, in the end it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.'
Love xxx

I so agree Liza and thank you for your kind words.I acknowledge that she must pursue her own path but that I must remain true to myself.
