Has anyone been diagnosed with Menieres? It's an inner ear problem causing vertigo, deafness and tinntus.
I have just been diagnosed and see a link between this and the thyroid.

Yes I have Ménière's disease bilaterally and am subject to tinnitus, vertigo, drop falls, and hearing loss. What is its connection to thyroid disease.
Sometimes if you get one auto-immune condition you can develop others.
Hi Yes I have Meniere's and tinnitus. Not sure if there is a connection to the thyroid but I have read that thyroid sufferers are prone to it. I also have fibromyalgia. I have just this week been fitted with a hearing aid as I am very deaf in one ear. I have had this condition for seven years and it has got progressively worse. I am going to a tinnitus support group next week as I am unable to sleep due to the loud constant buzzing. Tinnitus is always worse at night as there is no background noise to mask it.Apparently one in ten people suffer with tinnitus so it may not be always caused by thyroid problems.
I have a diagnosis of low thyroid and have experienced one bad episode of vertigo and buzzing in the ear. I still have a slight feeling of fullness in my right ear. At the time I was keeping track of what I ate and had just given in to a binge on one of the foods I was trying to give up. (They say you crave the things that harm you - definitely true in my case!) The dreaded food was wheat and I have come to the conclusion that the integrity of my gut is the most important factor in maintaining my health.
I have had a number of other auto-immune issues - inflamed rashes, muscle pain, frozen shoulder, costochondritis and chronic back pain. These issues have all resolved by moving towards a paleo diet and eliminating the most problematic foods - gluten grains, potatoes - and reducing legumes and tomatoes.
I can recommend reading "The Paleo Answer" by Loren Cordain. The middle section of the book is all about auto-immunity and foods that damage the gut.
Hope this helps.
i have tinnitus that comes and goes and I am wondering if it has to do with myxoedema. I have also read that there is a link to auto immune disease.

I suffered with tinnitus and vertigo when under medicated for hypothyroidism. Both are better now that I an on a sufficient dose of armour. I would personally be a bit suspicious of a diagnosis of meniere's if you are also hypothyroid. I think the symptoms of hypothyroidism can be very similar, so would want to be sure that this is optimally treated with T3/NDT before accepting this diagnosis. Xx
Hi, yes I've been diagnosed with Labyrinthitis, and I am certain it is connected. I feel under medicated at present, waiting to see my Endo as GP isn't very sympathetic/understanding. I was told it would pass in a few weeks but not so, seems worse when I'm stressed or tired. I think it's something that we manage, not much treatment(or that may be my GP as well??) Wish you well

Thanks everyone.
I think there is a definite link between menieres and thyroid issues. it is supposed to be linked to Hypothyroidism but I have graves and have episodes of Hyper - though I am sure I swing between the two.
As usual, there is far more information regarding Hypothyroidism than it's opposite, so am not surprised all the studies show this.
I think as someone above, just mentioned, you are prone to a few autoimmune issues when your thyroid is 'ill'.
I have always had a slight issue with my ears, but this is an episode of vertigo, ear fullness (which hasn't abated even with meds) and tinnitus.
I am interested to read the paleo diet though; am going to google it.
I had severe vertigo and tinnitus for over a year. Fobbed off by nhs. I then realised i had undiagnosed pernicious anaemia and coeliac. Was also under medicated on levo. After i started self medicating with ndt and b12, the tinnitus and vertigo went, but it took a long time.
what is NDT please

yes I was diagnosed with menieres disease 20 years ago and thyroid disease but was never told there was any connection
Hi I have underactive thyroid, migraines overlapping menieres & depression symtoms are awful at the moment any advice
I have Menieres. I'm having a very hard time dealing with it. I'm dizzy all the time. I fall a lot. I can't drive I get really dizzy watching cars go by, I have to look down at all times when riding. I get dizzy and sick watching water flow in streams. I ringing is non stop. I have been off work on medical leave since 1/18/16. After 12 weeks I was let go. I feel like my husband and kids, family, friends think I'm crazy they get mad when we are out in public and I fall or get so dizzy I get sick.I have always thought I was a strong person, that there was nothing I couldn't handle, but this is something I cant handle. I don't know how or if I can handle this. My EN&T doctors says my left ear is so bad it's crystalized. I don't know what my next step is I will find out on 5/9/16. I'm scared I'm going to fall and hurt myself bad or worse. I have hurt my hand and hit my head couple times.
Have you tried going gluten free? I have had all of the same issues as you and eliminating gluten made a world of difference.
Really feel for you... I'm not diagnosed yet but I know what you're experiencing - even water in the bath... Take care and be well xx
that's terrible I had to go onto gluten/wheat free diet now lactose free and eat very little processed food.Have you tried a machine that plays white noise or other noises at night quieter than your tinniuse it does help it distracts your brain to the noise on the machine helps a lot
I have a friend who has both. I have escaped Meniers so far
I have meineres disease and had thyroid cancer.....related if you asked me everything is related to my thyroid ask a doctor and they act like meineres is a alien word and back away a bit.
