Hi, I had a terrible bout of anxiety, panic attacks, feeling off balance a while back. Although the doc said I was in normal range, they had lowered me down to 100mcg Levo, and had never been on such a low dose before. It did pass after a few weeks, but it was a terrible feeling at the time. Hope you soon feel better. X

I used to and this was caused by too little thyroid hormone. Now that I am on NDT my anxiety is much less. I still have some, but I think that's normal. It's nothing like I used to get! Many people get this when they are on too low a dose of thyroxine and an increase helps.

You might find an increase in your thyroxine dose will help, but if it doesn't you could see if you could get a trial of T3 or NDT.

Do you know your iron and ferritin levels? Low levels can cause anxiety feelings. It would be a good idea to get this checked out if you haven't already.

Many people have said that products containing T3 are helpful. I have suffered anxiety and agoraphobia for years, both when I was overactive and when my thyroxine was reduced to 100mcg, but as my Levothyroxine has been increased I have improved.

I seem to have reached a certain point and stopped. I have less anxiety if I am in my local neighbourhood, but if I have to go further afield I still chicken out. I think there will be more improvement as I plan to introduce T3 into my regime, and then I will be strong enough hopefully to get myself out again without crippling panic and anxiety attacks!

To think that I travelled everywhere alone as a teenager and beyond!

Yes I too have suffered with anxiety when hypo and also when on T4. I am now on Armour and am much better, but had terrible anxiety when increasing my dosage. Xx

I had terrible anxiety with uat. I've always had a bit of agoraphobia but this was really hair-raising. I would sit shaking in my own home. It seemed to burn itself out somehow - or maybe I just stopped challenging myself - and I'm much better now. Still have the agoraphobia, but not so much generalised anxiety.

Now that I think about it, a number of years before my diagnosis I also went through a period of waking up every morning (early, before I had to get up) with a knot of anxiety in my stomach. It didn't seem to be attached to any particular thoughts/dreams/fears, but it would wake me up. I wonder if this was the beginning of my thyroid problems.

Yes, I had anxiety for years and it was completely resolved by going on thyroxine and came back whenever my TSH went up.

Anxiety can be a symptom of low thyroid and I definitly suffered more with anxiety pre NDT, and less anxious now. Anti-depressants taken before and during NDT. I take Thiroyd.
