Hi Tatty, I did have this but after being on Carbimazole for a few weeks it went. Have you a red rash like appearance on your hands and feet?? It is very typical with Hyper I am afraid. All to do with your circulation, are you taking anything??

Carbimazole and propanolol, no rash just burning, vitiligo on forearms and shins, rosacea on face a bit if a mess really, worried about surgery and the symptoms that will bring

Hi Tatty10. I have not had these symptoms. I am really interested to hear about the outcome as hyperthyroidism has given me some unusal symptoms & made such a huge change in my life! I got myself off propranolol as soon as I could it gave me feelings of tiredness & being vague.

When is surgery?

All the best,

Sonj

Hi sonj my surgery will be as soon as my tsh level is normal hopefully in about 6 weeks, i have none of the usual hyperthyroid symptoms, but a very large goiter which is making swallowing difficult and breathing problems when i lie down

Hi Tatty10,

Have you been tested for B12 deficiency? All of your symptoms are on the checklist:

I have Graves and B12d, I never had typical Graves symptoms, they were much more hypo in nature.

If you in any way think this might be a possibility please make sure you do not have a nitrous oxide based anaesthetic when you have surgery, as it inactivates all the B12 in your body:

Hi It could be Diabetes, the symptoms often start like this, all similar to thyroid disease, Autoimmune and hormonal. Make sure you have had a recent Diabetes test, should be annual in most people.

Hi I do get red palms sometimes but it is not constant. My feet are red and suffer with dry skin. I constantly scrub and soak them to improve their condition. Do let us know if you find out what is causing it all.

I also get hives on my forearms too.

Great stuff eh?

I have burning palms and feet and recently got diagnosed with overactive thyroid, not specified yet as to whether or not it's linked to a specific autoimmune disorder.

In the past I was diagnosed with Raynaud's (I'm only 19 - and female). I thought maybe I was diabetic or had lupus?

My energy and appetite, as well as physical pain and weakness, fluctuate wildly. It's crazy, but sometime I display textbook hypOthyroidism symptoms, and sometimes the hypERthyroidism that I supposedly have manifests itself very clearly.

It's as though my body is at war.

I have heard of Hashimoto's and Graves'… could either of those cause such wild fluctuations in symptoms?

I'm going to an endocrinologist soon to get follow up/more detailed tests performed.

I'm just frustrated and even more stressed with this diagnosis.

I'm looking for anecdotal accounts, suggestions, support just for the time being to calm my racing mind.

Hi i had all the classic hypo symptoms but 5 years hence when i was eventually diagnosed i was hyper still had burning palms and soles, now after tt last august and diagnosed hypo still have all the old symptoms, i have resigned myself to the fact that i will never get answers to my symptoms and in the main just put up with a lot of them, cos doctors endos really dont care.

you could have hashimoto's?

Most striking excerpts:

"So, for example, periods of anxiety/insomnia/diarrhea/weight loss may be followed by periods of depression/fatigue/constipation/weight gain."

"In some cases, the onset of Hashimoto's and elevation of antibodies will be accompanied by a variety of symptoms, including anxiety, difficulty sleeping, fatigue, weight changes, depression, hair loss, muscle/joint aches and pains, and fertility problems, among others."

"Symptoms [can] vary [….] no symptoms whatsoever […] cycling back and forth between hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism."

Good anecdotal account - didn't read all of it - too long, but towards the beginning, her early symptoms seem to appear a lot like mine.

so if you've gone back and forth between both that could explain it?
