Can this be related to taking 200 levothyroxine I seem to burn easily now I never used to before total thyroidectomy .? Maybe it's just my age 40?

Have no answer to that. However, I will point out that my own sun tolerance seems to have improved since improving my vitamin D level.

Mine too. I used to break out in hives and my face would swell up. This no longer happens since getting my vitamin D levels up.

I got badly burnt last year just sitting in the garden had blisters for a month and red raw fir longer. Can you get vitamins checked anywhere other than gp? Nurse said if u eat balanced diet you get all the vitamins u need and she wouldn't test

Nurse knows absolutely NOTHING about vitamin D.

Have a look here:

vitamindcouncil.org/

General opinion among those who seem to know is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to get enough vitamin D from any real world diet. And an awful lot of information is based on things like vitamin D fortification of milk - which is not usual in the UK, but is in the USA. You can only get enough if you also get sufficient exposure to UVB and/or take supplements.

I guess she thinks that Pernicious Anaemia can also be not happen because the person is actually eating a balanced diet? So why then do people who suffer get prescribed vitamin B12 injections?

This is the place we usually suggest for vitamin D testing:

I have my vitamin levels checked by my homeopath using a Vega test machine. Ging

Hi ging is that expensive?

Thanks

I pay about £45 but I am with her for an hour and she can also test all of the organs in the body [and recently added the endocrine system ] additives ,food etc. In fact she has almost 1,000 different phials to test patients. I have been using her for years and have sent lots of friends to her. She even tested my dog who I knew had a wheat allergy and she confirmed this. The Vega test has had bad press but it depends on the practitioner - mine is a classically trained homeopath and is fantastic. Where do you live ??? Ging

Glasgow Scotland ?

That sounds great really good value!

my face skin is so dry just now might be an allergy just been covering it in emollient hoping when I wake up it won't be itchy!

I have just Googled Glasgow and there is a Dr.Sheila Gibson <01414271505> Don't know what she charges but worth a try. Ask if she can test the endocrine system and do please let me know if you do go to see her. Good Luck Ging

I used to just have to wave to the sun and I would have a super tan, that was before I had any thyroid problems that I was aware of. Since having problems I take ages to get a tan and last year (on NDT) I got some very weird rashes on my shins that took weeks to go.

I presume there is some sort of connection between hypothyroidism/thyroid medication and skin pigmentation...Valerie

I seem to be getting a heat rash on my face or maybe it's just dry skin. Itchy itchy!

That's the sun away and the rain back today anyway lol I've always been quite pale. I used to have smooth perfect skin but not now its dry and bumpy :(

Vit D3 self-supplementation resulted in my being able to spend time in sun without face swelling, burning. Trouble is, no sun!

Cold, tired, gaining weight, previous blogs refer to dry eye? Not good, you seem hypo despite 200mcg levo. Might be a conversion problem, this needs both FT4 and FT3 tested to elicit.

Note you say TSH is "normal". Never depend on a doctor's word, get copies own blood results, legal right to these, then post results plus ranges here.

Thanks for this they wouldn't even test t3. She said I can tell you now you're converting perfectly well. I'm back early June so this time ill be better prepared for this. Had shingles on November so still got some pain there but it's only sore when I'm cold. Another reason I don't like being cold! Thanks to you all for being here and helping

So! She can tell you're converting perfectly well without seeing your free T3 level, can she. She should be the stand-in for Mystic Meg.

I had shingles earlier this year and the pain has not gone yet. Another sign something's not working right.

Until recently my doctor had me on 100mcg and I had a TT over 30 years ago. When I recently went up to 125 I had a private test. Even though my T4 was over 24, my T3 was only 4.5 - a conversion rate of almost 6:1 which isn't very good. What on earth would my T3 have been on only 100? The mind boggles. But he kept telling me I was just fine! TSH was PERFECT!

I agree that you ought to consider private testing for T3 because you will never know what is really happening unless you do.

I do hope you can get somewhere.

You've had sun poisoning I think. I had it and it took a few years to resolve. I don't know if there are creams now that help but you could look into that.

Hi Thyroidmeg,

where abouts is your rash on your face? Just cheeks? Forehead ? All over?

I am now unable to go in the sun at all as l have Lupus SLE..as well as many other add ons of an autoimmune variety.l had been ill for years but GP or myself were unaware of the under lining cause of my problems until the rash appeared on my face .it appeared just as winter was on the way out we had sun with a bit of snow , my face erupted!is called a Mallor rash or butterfly rash and sort of goes like wings of a butterfly from your nose to your cheeks l have mine on my forehead to..it becomes REALLY itchy and inflamed and bumpy ..can get little white spots as well . Dreadful if l go out without sunblock for .even or a minute or so.

I don't want to worry you x but thought it worth mentioning..after the rash l got intense pain in my fingers, now lm on the lupus train with a lot more besides..if you visit Lupusuk.org they have pictures of the rash..HOPE yours isn't anything like them! And also a list of symptoms.

Not scare mongering , just wished that l was more aware of what was going on when my rash first appeared.

Ps l am also on T3 only.this was be accuse l got a host of allergies and intolerances to meds and foods.l totally agree that your T3 should be regularly tested. Xx

Bestwishes Donna x
