Anyone with Hashimoto's on desiccated thyroid?
Hello Ryner,
I have Hashimoto's and I am about to start NDT. I have tried to get it from my doctor and have come up against a wall, so have ordered it from the net. I am awaiting its arrival. After 4 years of health disasters and seeing every consultant known to woman I have decided they can offer me very little and I am going to self medicate. I am a little apprehensive, but I do believe there is a community of thyroid sufferers on the net with wonderful support and advise. Certainly the community on the net are not suggesting that I undergo heart surgery for a thyroid problem which is one of the difficulties I have encountered.
Are you on Natural Dessicated Thyroid (NDT) or are you thinking about it?
Heart surgery? wow!
I have Hashimoto's since 1992, was on Thyrax in Holland which suited me - but since returning to England have been prescribed generic Levothyroxine which gives me acne, joint pain, wheezing and other stuff ... I started taking Thyroid-S from Thailand in combination with Levothyroxine, and on its own - but can't get the dosage right, been busy with it for a year now, no major changes, but I did lose a stone and a half on NDT alone in 6 months which was a bit scary as my normal weight is only 8 stone!
Hello
Louise, Natural Dessicated Thyroid is not a UK prescription drug. It is an unlicenced medicine. It is available to those that want it without prescription on the web. Some of us after being mis-diagnosed, passed from one consultant to another, and after much soul-searching and research decide with good reason to self-medicate. I understand you may not wish to have that information on this site, but I can't see how that helps Thyroid sufferers. When you post that kind of information saying we can't inform ourselves publicly could you also mention that it is possible to private message through the site. That way individual can have the information they need to come to a decision which is right for them rather than just be censored. With respect.
It is available on prescription in the UK on a 'Named Patient Basis'.
It is therefore subject to our Guidelines:
thyroiduk.healthunlocked.co...
The Guidelines are there for the comfort and protection of all users and to safeguard the reputation of Thyroid UK.
We would ask that all members respect that.
Thank You
