Anyone have experience of taking 100mg thyroxine when clinically euthyroid as a long term nodule preventative after a partial thyroidectomy?

Will I go all hyperthyroid and get sick?

Additionally I'm breastfeeding a tiny baby (8 wks) and wouldn't want to mess my milk supply.

Please can you post your latest thyroid blood results - including the ranges as this will help people to offer support.

Hi As Louise says, In general not a good idea to take any thing, especially potent until needed. If you think you need it, given the circumstances I would see a good Endo, must be good.

Best wishes,

Jackie

This is it, I haven't had bloods done since Feb, and even then at my request. I'll ask for them tomorrow at the GP's. requesting to see a good endo is probably the right idea for the moment. I was just wondering how common this recommendation is!!

Is this something you have been advised to do by your GP?

He is not alone in suggesting levothyroxine after a lobectomy.

I have created a spreadsheet for estimating how much levothyroxine will be required by people after a total thyroidectomy. But ONE formula in there applies post-lobectomy. Maybe have a look at it:

Unfortunately, they don't always get it right. They gave me 200mcg five days after my hemi-thyroidectomy. I had actually been hypothyroid for years with many symptoms and when I took it I went massively overactive the symptoms of which lasted two days.

Some people don't need any levo after their op though as it can take a few weeks for your own thyroxine levels to decrease.

Not having enough levothyroxine, though, won't be good for you or your baby. Always best to have blood tests done and compare them with your previous levels.

Not what you're looking for?
