With fairly uncomfortable left-sided pain radiating to back and apart from applying pressure to evacuate miniscule amounts, am not really opening bowels, should I eat anything or not? Thanks.

After a diverticulitis attack that almost ended my life and a couple of visits t0 the emergency room because of blockage, my surgeon told me to drink prune juice every night. I have been doing this and it has helped. Also, try not to get stressed, and definitely do not eat when stressed out.

Hi

I was diagnosed with diverticulitis a few years ago and have the same problem. I now take, on the advice of my gastroenterologist, an enema every morning on waking and find it is normally a great help and gives me a good BM.

I have this disease and IBS. It could be a flair up this is where an infection has started. I take buscpan and a hot water bottle really helps me. You may need antibiotics for the infection. I think you should go see the doctor. Cannot recommend a diet as nothing seems to work for long.

When I have a flareup avoid solid food for 48-72 hrs. Drink bone broth diet jelloavoid diary. By 48 hrs pain should be gone. Also try tea , weak coffee, black. lots of water and take it easy plenty of rest. Do not take ibuprofen or acetomenaphen. When starting back introduce foods slowly no roughage at all. Smooth foods like applesauce, eggs, toast, chicken fish, no meats at all. . Problem is with a low fiber diet constipation develops so try to introduce fiber in forms of veg and fruits week 2

Ibropufen is nasty. I not allowed any such thing now, no NSAIDS. HIATUS HERNIA, DIVERTICULAR AND IBS. Had a small bleed 3 year ago, but soon returned to normal after night in hospital, was just a blood vessel near the diver that popped, fortunately all OK now.

Thank you all for your replies. I have started Metronidazole as I have that on standby but may contact doctor. I was just unsure about restricting solid food for a few days but worried that this would make constipation worse. I have been having soft food today so will see how it goes. 🙂

I am not passing anything solid yet. Should I still take Cosmocol as I want to get my bowel working. I am on fluid diet. Also, are probiotics recommended? Thanks 😊
