Hi, I am a second-year undergraduate student at UC Berkeley. I am conducting a research project on IBS patients and others suffering from chronic stomach diseases for one of my courses. I would like to interview patients about their experiences. Anyone interested in this opportunity can contact me at lukewang@berkeley.edu. Thank you!

Hi, I’ve tried to send you an email but not sure what the last part of your email address is? My mail won’t accept.edu. What’s the end bit please?

Hi there.

In trying to reply, I suspect you are probably inadvertently leaving the period in the email address at the end… i.e. “lukewang@berkeley.edu.”

I strongly suspect that the below will work just fine…

lukewang@berkeley.edu

Hope that helps!

You struck gold here! Great research move, was it easy to find this site?

I’m with XDjames on this… you have potentially stumbled across “gold” here… there are some unbelievably knowledgeable, well informed and very well meaning people on this forum.

I am tempted to engage… but before I do can I ask a bit more about the type of research that you are doing, and why you have picked this particular topic?

Do you have ibs, or a similarly debilitating condition… or know somebody that does?

I might start by saying, and without necessarily wanting to start a big debate about the matter, that I wouldn’t (I don’t think you are, but from your post it could be interpreted as such) class ibs as a “disease” (although if I’m honest I’m not entirely sure of the strict definition!)

Thanks in advance.

Jo

Hi, I do not have IBS myself, but within this course I'm taking (evolutionary medicine) we have a project talking about how certain conditions evolved over time, so I am trying to understand a bit more about how IBS and other conditions affect people in the modern age.

“.., in the modern age”? As opposed to when? (sorry, that did make me chuckle!)

Well, I was first “officially” diagnosed with it going on 30 years ago and it has certainly had a major impact on my quality of life. What sort of info are you looking for?

I should probably say upfront that I’d only be willing to agree to do something like this if it’s on the condition of complete anonymity. Not that I have anything to hide… I just value my privacy.

I guess it must be dissertation time or something because you appear to have some competition!
