Ibs and Ezetimibe : Hi. I have had ibs and... - IBS Network
Ibs and Ezetimibe
Hi Gingers. I have diverticular disease. I have to take statins as I too have high cholesterol. I am really suffering at the moment with muscle aches, especially the thighs/legs. I did wonder if I have fibromyalgia or whether it’s the rosuvastatin causing me to feel so rough. Stomach is all over the place too. I will be interested to see what prople say.
Best wishes.
Your legs etc are the result of statins. They stop the liver producing all cholesterol good and the so called 'bad' one. I know of someone who really suffered much pain and limb damage ended up on crutches. always check things out, ask and research learn about your body and its functions. Doctors only know what they are told to prescribe in our NHS. the drug companies need business!! And you don't get any time with them unless you go private of course. Surgeries are subsidised by the products they use. We are all so stressed these days anyway and that's the biggest problem causing so much health damage. I can't stomach synthetic meds at all. Natural plant remedies and I find vibrational sound therapy so good.
Have a check around, prob is it costs. All the best
Kay
Thanks for taking the time to reply. It does make me think is it the statins causing all my problems. I have taking various ones for a long time & feel my symptoms are getting worse. I think I may give plant based a try too. Can you recommended one?
Best wishes
lots of stuff herbalist on google I would need to chat with you re your medical history not a good idea patient protection etc Bodies are complex and individual but nhs treats all the same, one mans meat can be another mans poison . Docs spend little time diagnosing, write a paper for drug pass you on to another lots of waitingting go ..online and ways question.
docs get paid by the nhs not the patient ifI tend to get monitored on this site so can't the patient paid more time and better treatment, patients pay their wages so they don't want to lose them. Kay
Hi Kay. Been on the ezetimibe three weeks now. First two weeks I thought everything is fine then starting the third week I started with abdominal distress. I carried on taking them but yesterday I had the most awful diarrhoea. It was like I'd taken the bowel prep before a colonoscopy.!My gp warned me of this side effect but I wasn't prepared for this! Amy way no more for me I've had it with cholestrol meds. Thinking of trying the plant stenols. Any recommendations please

My dad came off statins years ago when he became enlightened to the benefits of Nutritional Therapy. His cholesterol ratios (reason for statins) are as good/better nowadays, without statin problems.
Hi. Ucerotc. What nutritional therapy does your dad follow please
It's a heart-friendly protocol including diet and supplements for nutrition plus appropriate exercise. Because NT is individualised (unlike allopathic medicine which Is applied to all!), it would be wrong to supply more specific details.
But Id be happy to supply links to qualified Nutritional Therapists from which you can choose. Let me know.
I have coeliac disease, Fibromyalgia, IBS, and BAM. I was put on atorvastatin even though I read that people with BAM cannot tolerate statines. I was given a blood test and the Doc said it would be OK. At first I seemed OK it was such a slow decline I didn't notice for about first two weeks, but now my thighs feel heavy all the time. I also have a burning heavy feeling up the anus!!!! That's a new one. It's driving me mad. I can't see my Doc for another 2 weeks and I'm fed up of going there.
Hi Gingers I have been on ezetimibe for a couple of years still take it now have fibro Ibs and diverticulitis and have no problem as I'm now confirmed as being familiar hypoglycemia not sure if that's spelt right but generally called genetic high collestrol and still find I'm ok on it
I'm exactly same thought it was me who had written this. I've tried the same statins as you and I've recently tried Ezetimibe but I had terrible pains in my hips and legs so I've stopped taking it. I looked online for natural remedies to lower cholesterol and I've started taking Plant Sterols from British Supplements they have very good reviews. I hope these work because I can't tolerate any of the above medication. Please let me know if you find anything else that's suitable for lowering cholesterol. X
Thanks for your reply. I haven't started the ezetimibe yet so we shall see if I tolerate them. If not I have heard fibrates is another option. I wonder if anyone on here has tried them. Hope you get results with your plant stetols
I am exactly the same! The effects from Exetimide were even worse than the other two. I lasted about ten days. My hip and legs were unbearable and I was exhausted all the time. I’m now trying plant sterols from Healthspan and a daily Benecol drink together with a probiotic.
Blood test booked for end of November to see if this has helped to lower it a bit.
I have ibs D and it made no difference to that, if anything it was better!! But not worth the other issues.
Good luck, hope this helps. X
Thanks for your reply Angie. I have heard fenofibrates are another option and is supposed to be OK for people with ibs too. I would be interested to know if the plant stenols have helped you. Keep in touch. 😊
Hi Angie. Did you get your blood test results. I would be interested to know if the plant stenols worked
Hi Gingers, sorry to say they made very little difference. I was really disappointed as I had hoped for a good result. Not sure which way to go now… but not statins!! Seeing gp in a couple of weeks, but not sure if it will be helpful 😢
Oh sorry to hear that. I am taking them religiously at the moment. Blood test in January. I've heard others say they are a waste of time and money so I don't hold out much hope. Please keep in touch. I will be interested what your gp suggests next. Don't fancy injections do you?
Hi Dollymae06. Just wondered how you're getting on with the plant stenols. Would be interested to know if they're working
Hi Gingers I have got a blood test on Friday for cholesterol so hopefully they have helped to bring it down.x
Hi Dollymae06Did you manage to get your cholestrol down with the plant sterols
Hi Gingers I tried Plant sterols I was very disappointed as my bloodtest proved they didn't help my cholesterol at all it had gone up even more. I had call from GP to try something else called bempedoic acid Nilemdo 180mg. I've had them since 5th December I haven't tried them yet frightened to start them I'm in a lot of pain from Fibromyalgia I will have to try them in New Year.
Hello Gingers
I have had IBS and ME for 30 years and have been through statin torture most of this year.
Atorvastatin, Simvastatin and most recently Pravastatin.
The muscle pain was intense, the wee really dark and with the Pravastatin the weakness on top of my ME had me falling over twice.
Doctor agreed no more statins and I’ve been taking Ezetimibe for two and a half weeks.
I know that’s not long but I haven’t had any side effects so far and am more hopeful - I can let you know if anything develops?
Give it a go but keep an eye on the colour of your wee?
It’s an old drug that doctors used before statins were invented but I don’t know if that makes it safer?
Good luck and fingers crossed 🤞
Jac 🙂
Me again 🙂
GO has told me if Ezetimibe doesn’t suit me then he’s going to refer me to a specialist who may end up giving me a different type of cholesterol lowering treatment involving regular injections.
Don’t know if anyone else has progressed to this?
Regards Jac 🙂
Hi Jac. I'm in the same boat as you. Can't take statins and was given ezetimibe. First two weeks were fine then I developed awful diarrhoea. I've stopped taking them now and trying natural sterols. I haven't told gp that I've stopped as I don't want to try anything else especially injections. Please let me know how you get on.
Hi Jac. Are you still doing OK on the ezetimibe and do you know if they're working?
Hallo Gingers 👋
I’ve been getting along quite well with Ezetimibe for the last two months except one little wobble at two weeks.
Just had a cholesterol blood test and it’s not drastically reduced my cholesterol - 5.8 down to 5.6. Dr wants to talk to me!
Will let you know what happens if you are still interested?
Merry Christmas!
Luv Jac x
Hallo 👋 Gingers!
I am still taking them but I won’t know if my cholesterol is down until I get my blood test done just before Christmas.
I did struggle at three weeks in as I helped my Mum hang some curtains and my arms really hurt for a few days and I was sooo very tired but I’m over that now and I do seem to be tolerating it much better than the statins.
My muscles are no more painful than the ME makes them and I am not feeling ill with them.
My wee is a normal pale colour and I am optimistic that I seem to be able to take them.
I’ll let you know when I get the blood results if they do lower my cholesterol?
Love and best wishes Jac x
