for years I’ve thought I have ibs.

I thought I was in a bad flare up. Terrible urgency, diarrhoea and loose stools and not emptying my bowel.

I have noticed now a bulge in my vagina I looked it up and found pelvic floor dysfunction and I’m worried this is my problem I am going to get a doctors appointment as soon as possible but I just wanted to ask if anyone knows or had this.

Thank you.

Hi, that sounds like a prolapse to me. Not as frightening as it sounds, I suddenly found a bulge and panicked that the whole of my insides were going to fall out! I don't think mine was due to IBS, I had a very complicated prolonged birth with my first child and I think it wrecked my pelvic floor. I went to the doctor who referred me to the gyno at the hospital. There are various treatments depending on your individual problem, I opted for a hysterectomy in the end because I was over 50 with 2 children and didn't need my reproductive system any more. I have thought since there were maybe exercises I could have done instead, but on the plus side I haven't had any problems since. Its important not to get constipated cos obviously straining is very bad. This is one of the conditions that isn't talked about much, but it's actually very common. Just like IBS itself, you don't announce it like you would heart problems, or diabetes etc, but amazing how many of us have it. One final suggestion, if it's possible try and get a female doctor, I had an arrogant male consultant at the hospital, and the only decent advice I got was from the nurse in the room! Good luck, I'm sure you'll get it sorted
