I can't eat any kind of tomatoes sadly. They always give me a flare up and I do love them both fresh and tinned, pureed...anything! I miss them.

But if you can normally eat them OK, and if you opened the tin a few days ago or something and kept them in the fridge, then maybe they just upset your tummy because they were a bit old.

Thank you for replying. They were from a newly opened tin.I have eaten them in the past, but not eaten them for a while, not since the flare up previous, but I’ve started keeping a diary of what I eat,

Yes, maybe if it's a while since you ate them, they now just aren't a good fit with your IBS. I do try to experiment with fresh tomatoes sometimes (I skin them first) just because I like them so much. But the meanest thing is I might get away with it the first day of eating just 4 or 5 cherry tomatoes, but the next time I try them they upset my gut.

I usually can't tolerate tomatoes, fresh or canned. Sometimes a small amount is okay, but I'm gambling.

That's bad luck, somewhat essential in many pasta dishes. If it's anything to do with FODMAP tomatoes should be OK. In fact the 'Mediterranean diet' vegetables -which are the ones I actually like- are safe by that standard and don't give me problems. Corn on the cob (I like) and onion (usually -used big time in cole slaw) are out for me, and I'm not mad on peas.

Thank you for replying,it’s so frustrating when you like something and can’t eat it,I only have a little onion,so far I’m ok with peas,I eat green beans and carrots, but not sure with cauliflower and broccoli which I love.

I can't eat broccoli or cauliflower but I'm OK with green beans and peas.

I finally had to give up tomatoes, as much as I tried and even just one small tomato was always touch and go, it isn't worth it. I love them too and now I don't know what to use instead of them in dishes I used to make. I've been learning about Histamines this last year and Tomatoes are very high in Histamines. Any of the Brasiccas , like Cauliflower, Cabbage, Broccolli always give me a bad time so none of those either. There's only peas that I seem to tolerate, I can eat more fruits than vegetables, especially berries.

Tomatoes tend to give me pain and acid reflux which is what they can be renowned for. Just goes to show food intolerances go beyond FODMAPs. They are highly acidic which can be part of the problem. It's a shame since a lot of recipes need tomatoes. There may be ways to make them more tolerable such as adding sodium bicarbonate to make them less acidic, but I've never tried this, plus I don't like the idea of adding sodium to the diet. Wondering if anyone has managed to adapt tomatoes to make them more tolerable such as some kind of low sodium alkaline element?

Hi guys, like most of you, I cannot tolerate tomatoes anymore. However for pasta dishes I have found that I am OK with tinned PEELED PLUM tomatoes. Be interested to see if it works for any of you.

Hey, if you want to find out for sure exactly which foods cause your issues, I would recommend zymptom.ai - basically log your foods and the intensity of your symptoms every day and it finds any patterns. It breaks your foods down into ingredients then categorises them into common food intolerances.

Yes. Tomatoes generally are a trigger for me. Discovered it some time ago when I put some fresh tomatoes in with some roast veg. Turned out they weren't fully ripe inside. Took weeks before my ibs settled. On the bright side, since then I have discovered I can eat small amounts of fresh tomatoes if I scrape out all the seeds and juice and I can use products like puree and passata in cooking. Hope this helps.
