Hi all way back in 1997 i suffered with severe IBS D i tried antispasmodics from my gp aloe vera juice but it was when i started eating bananas it vanished fast forward 2017 i developed diverticulitis and severe constipation and pain my abdomen was huge luckily it was uncomplicated i started eating wholemeal bread and took fybogel however my IBS C never seemed to go away and fybogel on prescription only helped with constipation and not bloating and pain every day even after eating small amounts . Its now 2024 and still no relief so i bought some probiotics they did at first seem to to stop some of the pain but then constipated me do i stopped them , next stop flax and no more fybogel the results were almost instant my constant abdominal pain dissappeared and i didnt feel so bloated . I just sprinkled a large teaspoon into a bowel of kefir and also one st evening dinner my question is has anyone else benefited from flax if so let me know
Milled Flax so far so good: Hi all way back in... - IBS Network
Milled Flax so far so good
So glad to hear you are having good results from milked flaxseed. I've been using it for months now and I think it's wonderful stuff and completely natural, packed with omega 3 oils. I use it in my bread making because I found it was a little too harsh when I tried it in its natural state on my porridge. I wouldn't be without it now. My bowels aren't back to normal as in tears ago, but they are considerably better. I find the Golden Flax is better for me than the Brown. I hope you continue to feel better.Fresh Blueberries are also a favourite of mine 😉
Micheal Moseley has just done an episode on the virtues of freshly ground flaxseed (also called linseed) on his BBC Radio 4 series “Just One Thing”. You could catch it on a podcast if you missed it. The research shows it lowers cholesterol and blood pressure as well as helping your gut. They say it needs to be fresh - stored up to 3 days in the fridge - to retain its nutrients. I’ve just started to use it, grinding small amounts of golden linseed. It’s got a quite pleasant, nutty flavour. I’m glad it’s working well for you. Nice to have something that’s not another pill to take.
Not quite the same , but I soak chia seeds ( 2 large teaspoons ) in coconut water, then add some fruit eg half a banana and some blueberries plus 2 teaspoons of olive oil ( tasteless once mixed in ).It all goes in the blender and I am going daily. The olive oil lubricates your digestive tract. My friend's elderly dad who is on pain meds and was very constipated....together with daily Laxido ( osmotic laxative), is finding the chia seed and coconut water a real help.
My dietitian had me taking the unmilled seeds: linseed when i was doing the low fodmap diet and worked then. How come they recommend milled flaxseed now? Fybrogel contains sweeteners which damage the microbiome, you are better off taking pysllium husk powder from health food store, it gives me diorrhea tho and ibs symptoms!
Haven't noticed them helping since but keep forgetting to take them regularly. Chia seed pudding works a treat tho, as does cocoa orange nakd snack bars!
