IBS Symptoms

I have Ibs constipation / diarrhoea I take Mebeverine , Loperamide and Alflorex probiotic I am suffering with anxiety and depression also. I get tingling pins and needles feeling all through my body that comes and goes it is very scary. As anyone else ever experienced this I feel so alone .

hi sorry to hear that you are going through this.

I also have mixed IBS. No medications seem to work for me but I found that medications for anxiety and depression did help the IBS.

Have you asked your GP about this? I took sertraline for a while and that helped. At the moment I am trying amitriptyline and this seems to be helping too

Thank you for your reply I do take Sertraline 50mg and Amitriptyline 10mg at night but it hasn't really helped . I also take Alflorex probiotics so don't know what else I can do.x

Hi. With having had IBS for over 7 years I too have experienced similar tingling/pins and needles and a whole host of other sensations in my body which as a fellow sufferer of anxiety and depression, I don't wish to make things worse for you.

I have deliberately avoided taking any kind of medication for my IBS (I don't like to label my IBS) even though I am sure I experience both constipation and diarrhoea from time to time.

To combat my anxiety and depression, I focus on eating well and as healthy as possible, eating a wide variety of fruit, veg and plenty of fibre including nuts and seeds. I also find doing some exercise and being outdoors in nature a great help to lift my mood.

I also ensure that I do small things that I know will give me joy and contentment each day. It is possible to overcome anxiety and depression…

Thank you so much for your reply It helps to know I'm not alone and these symptoms can be anxiety. I have changed my eating pattern and eat more healthier I have appointment with Gp next week and I have referred myself for talking therapy . I do suffer with constipation/ diarrhoea and my consultant prescribed me an enema kit to use at home but I've been to scared to try it due to side effects. I will speak to Gp about it and hopefully I will be able to try it.
