Hello Arvine

So sorry to hear about the loss of your son at only 54 - that must be anguishing and bound to be affecting your gut. My son has ulcerative colitis and he found steroids gave him terrible intestinal spasms and pain which has got better as he reduced them. Is there any alternative to prednisone as this may be aggravating spasms and constipation? Chamomile tea and 24 hour plain yoghurt (no lactose) helped him too. Gut pain is so miserable - I suffer from IBS C so I know how it feels. Anything you can do to relax will help especially slow breathing. I hope you feel better soon - I’m 77 and have major heart problems so I empathise with the struggle of managing an aging body

I am about to try slippery elm for the same problem. Peppermint tea is somewhat helpful too, but I have to temper it with chamomile so it doesn't aggravate my reflux.

arvine A hip replacement surgery worked out really well for my auntie, who had hers done just before the Covid business, She was age 87 then. Unfortunately she never managed to get her second one done, owing to Covid, umpteen mishaps, and now her very bad condition and dementia. But she was happy with her hip replacement and it gave her better mobility at the time.

hi so sorry to hear of the loss of your son. I think so very many gut problems can be stress related and it has been proved so. Loss must be devastating and so hard to come to terms with but I agree with having relaxing methods such as herbal teas (chamomile, fennel and ginger are especially gut for the guts) and mindfulness along with deep breathing. Also you must talk about this, perhaps with a counsellor or on a bereavement site and possibly contact with others going through the same process. Sometimes it may help to know you’re not alone.
