Feeling fed up 😳

Hi,so I’ve had a bad flu, possibly covid virus for two weeks now but to top it all my gut has been playing up along side it. The pain varies from a cramping in my right side,an awful stabbing pain in my lower right side and intermittent sharp wind pains.I’ve gone from having constipation to crampy diarrhoea. I am suffering with pain virtually every time I eat 🙈.Coughing isn’t helping,it feels like I’m shaking my guts up every time I cough.Has anyone else suffered badly with ibs symptoms on top of flu?

Yes, I had exactly what you are describing over Christmas.

It is possible that you did have COVID-19, since flu is unlikely to impact your gastrointestinal system. Studies have shown that COVID-19 can have a direct negative impact on your gut, by disrupting the microbiome (and maybe through other means). It has even been shown to cause IBS in people who didn't have it in the first place.

Probably the best thing to try out initially is a well studied probiotic such as Alflorex or Symprove to try to get your gut back on track.

yes I’ve had all of your symptoms plus sore ribs, probably from coughing. I get a stabbing pain about 3 inches to the side and a bit below belly button. This all started quickly after I tested clear from Covid.

Thank you for your reply.I hope you’re feeling better now.I haven’t slept well for the past week with the cough. Then the gut pains and discomfort on top of it all 😔.Thankfully my gut feels a little better today but sticking to toast and very bland foods.

When I had COVID 2years ago the worst thing for me was my IBS. I have never suffered so badly and it carried on for at least 2weeks with really acute IBS: pain, spasms, awful diarrhoea (with accidents!) as well as all the COVID symptoms.i now think that my IBS has never really gone back to how it was before and the COVID seemed to really exacerbate it… Hope yours improves soon!

Hi 👋 oh no! I have to say I’m really suffering right now.The last five nights I have woke up with an horrible cough which forces me out of bed.But on top of that my gut is hurting and so unsettled.Yesterday I was in pain pretty much all day like a griping in my left side and going to the loo numerous times. I have felt concerned as I do suffer with ibs pain but it usually settles by mid morning.Thank you for your reply,it reassures me the two are connected and hopefully nothing more serious occurring. I actually have a holiday booked in two weeks time so praying it all settles down in time.x
