Any positive experience with antibiotics for IBS

Wind seems to be the root cause of a lot of my discomfort. Unless I can 'blow' (usually explosively) I can't get relief and can't concentrate on anything. It's a bit like having certain (male) appendages squeezed or someone poking at a sore.

Is it SIBO? I'm using Foodmarble AIRE2 (breath test) and the results are varied e.g. in the morning when I'm full of gas I get low readings i.e. not consistent with SIBO.

I tried Metronidazole for a few days but felt worse. I don't mind persevering there is a prospect, and this ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl... (if you can access it) suggests good outcomes e.g. for Rifaximin which I have not tried.

I've seen posts on IBS after a course of antibiotics for other problems, but has anyone had good experience with any antibiotic? I'm talking to my GP today, this is one straw to clutch at.

Any gut pain I experience is usually down to wind. Sometimes when it is stuck. I am also explosive, regardless of what I have eaten.

I have the exact same "blowing" or "explosive" type of flatulence. But the precursor to that is always gut spasms. I have been looking for a solution for this for many years now.

Certainly, the use of the antibiotic rifaximin can lead to a reduction in SIBO symptoms and an improvement in quality of life by reducing bacterial colonization of the small intestine and reducing endotoxemia in the body as a whole. Benefits of using rifaximin over other antibiotics is that it is practically not absorbed in the intestine and does not cause systemic effects. It is also true that in many cases, SIBO may be the cause of IBS.
