currently going through a flare. I have IBS D. Do have a number of motions. Sorry TMI 😢. I have had a flare after four months. Whenever I go through it I feel miserable but also sad. Today I having upset stomach. Gas and a little pain. It’s 9:30 at nite where I live. Haven’t eaten anything since lunch. Flare started at work. But I managed to get through the work day. Told my boss will be on sick leave tomorrow. Feel guilty for same. Also sad that I am going through this. ☹️☹️
Just wanted to hear your thoughts on how you cope with a flare.

Those flares are horrible. I do know. It can really bring me down mentally when I have been a while without one, and then a flare suddenly happens for no obvious reason.
Going without flare ups makes me feel "I am getting better and getting over this!"
And then a crash back to face IBS issues again!
The way I cope with a flare up is some sort of stoicism, knowing it always passes, and jjust enduring it while it lasts,
Plus, adjusting my diet greatly, as a temporary thing until my tummy gets calmer for a few days.
So, because I have the "D" version of IBS, I immediately go onto what I call "binding" foods, and ONLY eat when my body tells me it's hungry. So the foods that I choose at those very bad times are something like steamed white fish and white rice with maybe just a small portion of a vegetable that's easy on my tummy (I like spinach or green beans)
Something like chicken breast cooked in the oven in a little water and just a sprinkle of salt, and covered with tinfoil so it partly steams would be gentle for the gut too, or plain cooked eggs.
Food like that will help to settle my gut, and when that's happened, I gradually re-introduce other foods over the next few days, and see how I go. Keep your diet very plain and nutritious until your gut settles.
