Does anyone suffer from gastric emptying also known as dumping syndrome. My teenage daughter started with these symptoms after covid 18 months ago. It seems to happen every few weeks and in between she has bad ibs symptoms and indigestion. We have seen a nutritionist, tried cutting out many different foods, had GP tests. Currently waiting for abdominal scan and referral. Symptoms are very debilitating and difficult to cope with. Keen to learn more from others about why this could be happening and how she can cope.

Gastric Emptying
have you been referred to a gastro? They will be able to do the right tests and be able to prescribe medication to help xx
Yes, me. Can you work out if anything in particular triggers your daughter? Too much sugar is what triggers me. So, I tend to avoid it as far as possible, and don't binge on sweets any more or there are dire consequences.
what foods did you cut out. I m having a hard time as well.
With dumping syndrome there is a shift in fluid into your small intestine which causes your blood pressure to drop and can cause blood sugars to crash 2 hours after eating. It's usually surgery related, but can be due to hormone imbalances or unknown cause.Having less fluids with meals and eating complex carbohydrates rather than sugary stuff can help. Reducing fluids with meals slows the transition and the complex carbs take longer to burn off which combats the blood sugar drops.
Has she ever had any surgery or is on any medications?
I'd agree she needs a gastro consult and also seeing a dietician who specialises in gastro as dumping syndromes complex to manage
Thanks everyone. She’s never had surgery and we can only link its start to covid or possibly hormonal. She’s on mebeverine and omeprozol as has cramps, indigestion and nausea coming and going daily. Has eliminated sugar, simple carbohydrates so hoping for improvements and further help from referral. Hope everyone suffering finds some relief.
