Colon CT

I am due to have a Colon CT on Monday, I am getting really really nervous. I am disabled deaf, just realised that there was another side to the letter and containing the substance for prep. Originally I was sent a letter from the Colon Nurse that had been directing the the case that it would only be 60ml of Gastrophen or whatever it's called. But the CT people sent 100 ml with a regime of two doses 50ml in the morning 50ml in the afternoon. My support contacted the CT people who said that they do it differently now.

Together with apologies for the last instructions of pickolax which were out of date. Also apologies for not keeping my records up to date regarding my deafness and that I have to have a Lipspeaker present. They should have all this information on record as I had an introduction appointment with the Colon Nurse followed by the first colonscopy.

My support person /friend /Lipspeaker will attend.

The back of the letter says they don't want friends or family members involved, what do they intend to do to me? ??

It also saysthat if they use a muscle relaxant Bencol or something I might loose my sight for a while afterwards and that I should get to a hospital, so how on earth am I supposed to communicate if that should happen.

I am finding it very difficult as it's my choice of who speaks for me and I had no idea that this CT was so secretive. Just thought it would be like other CT with ink.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

I should be in bed as I have already taken my sleeping tablet.

Stay safe, God bless

I have not had this type of CT scan, however another forum has plenty of people who have so I will tell you what they said. The prep is similar to any prep needed to get better images of the colon but please get the person who speaks for you to have the correct up to date info sent asap. they can send it to you by email so you have it as well as explaining over the phone to your support person.

People have said that the feel they still want to pass stool right up until the test but that there are no accidents that have been mentioned so I think you will be ok provided you follow when to take the prep. The muscle relaxant is Buscopan that you can buy OTC for wind pain etc so nothing to worry about.

The sight part you mentioned; again no one who has had it and written about it has mentioned this but again it needs checking with the department doing the test as you have concerns and they must be made aware that you are deaf and so need your support with you, I cannot see this being a problem but all hospitals are different so please get someone to ensure you are happy with it all.

I have only had colonoscopies and people who have had both have said the CT one is less bothersome.

Good luck.
