Least 'impactful' snacks?

Beginning to head towards trying the low FODMAP diet to try and understand what my triggers might be (primary symptom is bad flatulence). But there seems to be advice to do some more basic things first, including:

- try and avoid snacking between meals (and later in evening)

I've always been skinny (high metabolic rate?) and have always tended to snack, so breaking the habit would be very tough for me.

Any recommendations for the most benign/least impactful snack things to reach for might be (from an IBS gas etc point of view) if I'm unable to overcome the urge by willpower alone?

Thanks all,

M

This is a tricky one, I am the same and I love to snack at night which I know is bad but hey I get hungry!

I suggest maybe rice cakes, have a small amount of maple syrup or marmite or something on it, But anything you have is going to keep digestion going when it probably should be resting though.

Hi M, you really need to find out what your triggers are before you can decide what the best things to snack on might be. If you like fruit, pears rarely cause any problems. I did the low FODMAP diet which was a god send after more than 20 years of suffering. I still stick to it quite closely as I found a fantastic company, Field Doctor, that provides frozen meals that strictly adhere to the low FODMAP diet. Not for everyone as they are not cheap. Stick with finding out what is giving you your symptoms, and if you can give your digestion a rest before bed that will help a lot. Hope you find your answers soon.

Pears are high FODMAP

Pears are a definite no-no for me too. As are apples.
