Worried to take buscopan

My mums stomach troubles started earlier this year, after 3 courses of AB's. She has been fine since June, but on Saturday evening her tummy started to feel funny.

She'd had a chicken tikka and naan bread at teatime...which she usually does on a Saturday evening.

Her stomach feels like it's contracting, she feels hungry and she was a bit constipated. She has brought up some wind too (burping)

She was up in the night feeling hungry.

We're also going through quite a stressful period at the moment, as my paternal grandad is currently receiving end of life care in a nursing home.

We're wondering if that could have triggered this flare up?

She's quite a worrier in general, so she is scared to take buscopan because it can give you blurred vision.

Is there anything natural she could take that would help?

Something without the horrible side effects?

What else could she do to relieve her symptoms?

We're all new to this, so any advice would be gratefully received

Buscopan should not be taken if you have Glucoma, and you should see your GP if you are over 40 and have not been diagnosed with IBS before you take them. Get mum checked out by her GP👍

Her gp prescribed the buscopan a couple of months ago. She doesn't have gluacoma. Her stomach seems worse in the morning. Maybe it's where she's not eaten for several hours overnight

OK so GP has been fully updated with your mums symptoms, did he/she mention that anti bacs can upset the flora and forna of the gut? Please check it out and what can help, wish your mum well

Could be a small flare due to stress your mum is under. Most OTC meds for IBS will have a side effect list, but if your mum has been prescribed Buscopan by the GP, then she should give it a try. It is what I take for wind pain which can be quite bothersome otherwise. You could of course go and ask a pharmacy - they know all the meds! Hope your mum feels better soon.

Hi .Yes could well be the sad circumstances ,sorry to hear about that, that could of triggered it. Though curries (too nervous to have one now ,though love it!),could have itself done so.

I'm very similar to your mum and a worrier ,suffer from severe anxiety. Had to go to hospital and doctors both said nothing wrong after checking my tummy over abit. Both were saying I should address anxiety. I too am worried about tablets . Doctor told me buscopan quite safe and to max the dose. I saw the caution about vision but was fine. Talk to pharmacist perhaps .

There's quite good free hypnotherapy videos that are related to IBS on internet. Why not try that,I have. Also it will educate your mum perhaps about the link between anxiety stress and IBS. It's to do with vagus nerve alot of it. Perhaps she may find it reassuring. I wish you all the best
